when should you get a new computer?

ive had the same desktop computer for two years now. i only replaced the fan on it. its a nice none name brand. i keep everything on back up although harddrive failures just come out of the blue and for no reason. its always good to update with new technology.

What kind of question is that?

Buy a new computer when you need a new computer.

budz 06-03-2005 08:17 PM

kaylacruz 06-03-2005 08:19 PM

new computer is always nice, new anything is nice! lol I love an excuse to shop for anything hehe

Walrus 06-03-2005 08:19 PM

Yeah, I guess it all depends on your needs. I play Battlefield Vietnam/POE and soon Battlefield 2 when it comes out. These are FPS war games. My computer is a DELL and it's 3 years old now. I've been wanting a new computer for about a year now. This thing is WAY outdated for PC Games. Are you happy with its speed?

Babagirls 06-03-2005 08:20 PM

I'm still using a p3 800..time for an update but this box has been stable and problem free

I upgrade every 6 to 12 months. Lately, I've been making them myself with various degree of success. This latest one hasn't had a major failure yet :bigears

I'm still on the "Old Reliable" desktop most of the time. DUAL P3-933s, Gig of RAM, 3 - 60GB drives, with a good 256MB video card, and Windows 200 Pro. This machine is at 5 years old, and still has plenty of life left in it. I do graphics and engineering math models on this box all the time, and it can easily keep up with any P4 box I've ever used.

Then I have "THOR" for serious processing. A Quad-Zeon P3-650, Compaq Proliant 5500. 2GB ECC RAM, SmartArray 3200 controller, 9 - 18GB SCSI 3 drives, and redundant power supplies, running FreeBSD 5. "THOR" was bought off eBay for only $500, it was immaculate without even a spec of dust in it. It was about $100 for the shipping because the size and weight (over 160 pounds) and they had to ship it on a pallette. Not your average "Home PC". :1orglaugh

Olde Computers ROCK!!! :thumbsup

The only modern computer I have is a Sony Vaio P4-2.8 Laptop.

Sosa 06-03-2005 11:25 PM

my desktop is over 2 years old, laptop is a bit of a year old. Both work great still.

GatorB 06-03-2005 11:30 PM

Why spend moeny on a new computer when you can upgarde your old one. They're made to be upgraded you know. Now when if you upgraded all you can then you still need something more then think about getting a new one.

webcrawler 06-03-2005 11:51 PM

It depends on the requirements of my work, I'm not into games, video stuffs etc so this desktop pc will go a long way.

Kiwigirl 06-03-2005 11:53 PM

Buy a new one when the old one's broke.

taibo 06-04-2005 12:53 AM

SmokeyTheBear 06-04-2005 01:18 AM

upgrade any time you have to wait more than 2 seconds for something to load( besides windows )

bringer 06-04-2005 01:21 AM

build your own system and upgrade as need. buying a new computer is a waste
