link lists don't send any traffic
 

so how do I start promoting my site?

Quite a few link list do send a good amount of traffic - if your site is accepted.

Here is a short list of sites that will send a lot of traffic: (some of these sites will have links to several other sites you can also submit to on their submit page or the thanks for submitting page)
