i do not undertand domains

Freeporn.com has value do to its typeins. It has inherent traffic. This has value. Then there are domains that are brandable. Short easy to remember domains targeted to a product. But they seem to have little crossover strength. Would you purchase freeporn and spin it up into a major site? Wouldn't you be better to harvest the typeins and buy fredsporn.com and spin that into the major site? Freeporn.com just does not sound like a site to me. I would be less likely to shop at catalog.com versus billscatalog.com. Am i alone in this? Anyone go to lampshade.com when they need a lampshade?

My thought has always been that the type in market is driven by 12 year olds versus the credit card wielding public.

Hmmmm..... well youve kind of got it wrong in a sense.

Also, you didnt consider that "free porn" is likely to be a major search engine keyword and after heavily promoting the domain name "FreePorn.com" you're likely to get a top listing for that keyword which means shit loads more traffic.

As for type-ins, well perhaps thats the way you think but the mainstream of people do type in generic domain names. Most people know theres a dot com for everything now so if they want a specific product and they want to find it fast, they often try typeing in the domain name. I typed in a domain to find printer cartridges, and bought the product right away.

Plus the domain name "FreePorn.com" describes the product exactly. So therefore, people are gaining extra information through the domain name right away. There are many many more advantages.

That said if "BillsPorn.com" is a lot cheaper, this may be your strategy and it may possibly work but type-in traffic is very strong and great way to start.

FreePorn.com would be a perfect name and easily brandable. Who doesn't like free and who doesn't love porn? But to get to a fair price you have to have a plan ahead of time to turn a profit in a reasonable amount of time. No matter how great a domain is it's not going to do well without great design and content.

Type in traffic is trickle traffic... if you develop a site well your domain doesnt matter a whole lot in my experience.

I basically agree with this and its common knowledge that you can develop *any* domain and its unlikely to harm your business per se.

That said, if someone wants that *extra* advantage over everyone else and the domain describes the business perfectly, plus type-in traffic, then theres no substitute for "FreePorn.com".

"When ya gatz to kill every mother fucker in the room, cept no substitute...."
