I just spoke to my attorney regarding 2257....

Though they (all the attorneys) are still decoding what a lot of it means exactly, he did confirm that you DO have to be a member of the Free Speech Coalition to be fully protected under the injunction if they get it. I stand corrected on this issue.

He also said that as far as they can tell, foreign issued IDs are OK as long as they are government issued.

I will be meeting with him in about a week once they have a more clear understanding of it all. But he did say that I needed to be compliant by June 23.

Most of that info you know... but the FSC part I was wrong about.

Nice DWB, thanks for the info.

Does anyone know if it effects Non USA webmasters with their server in USA?

I could ask a lawyer here, but I doubt they would even know what 2257 was.

u can't be prosecuted nor can your host (since they have no administrative control over anything on your site). JMHO

If your server is in USA, then technically you are supposed be in compliance. However, if you weren't, you wouldn't be on top of the hitlist.

The DOJ could have your server pulled if they really wanted to.

was "fully protected" his term or yours because being a member means diddly squat in the grand scheme of things. You aren't fully protected of anything by being a member.

You can still get yourself into trouble if you just sit on your ass going "I'm safe, I'm a member... I'll just wait and see what happens"

Why expose yourself to trouble ???/ They could walk in at your host and " seize" your box... You have nothing not compliant, we will bring it back free of charge ....

Move your servers out. I moved all my adult related to Canada.

i doubt anyone is saying that... its just saying that "hey, if u want to avoid getting jumped on by the DOJ for things COVERED under the injunction, then join... otherwise, u r on your own".... unless of course u plan on having your OWN attorney file an injunction for you privately. if so, fuck it... ignore everything here.

Protected as in regarding the new 2257 chganges IF they get the injunction and you are part of the FSC. Not as in you can do what you want, damn the law.

Webby 05-30-2005 10:44 PM

Has anyone actually read the 2257 code??? :-)

One extract alone makes it totally impractical....

If the US DOJ seriously think I'm gonna list all imaging for every damned website and present this in a nice dossier for em - that is not going to happen.

At the scale of website production I ain't employing an office block to fill in their crap.

Sure am pleased I never trusted the bastards in the first place and removed all connections from that country. It's even clearer now that it's managed by a load of ... fairly naive.. control freaks with a power complex.

JoeA 05-30-2005 10:55 PM

Living outside the US and being hosted there isn't a problem.

Hosts are only distributors. They do not have any editorial control over web sites .. That's what I was told tonight.
