my DSL modem has a built-in firewall. im using windows xp and it has a built in firewall also. i've been using it for 2 years now, no issues so far. Installing another 3rd party firewall is just a nuisance to me. :)

A software firewall like Zonealarm is for keeping malicious programs and/or spyware that somehow sneaks on your system from dialing OUT, so to speak, i.e, connecting online for whatever purpose without you specifically authorizing it at least once. I think everyone with their pc connected online still needs this in addition to the hardware firewall in a typical modem or router to be really protected.

Keyloggers are only useful once they access the internet and transfer the info, which all of the above should catch. If someone comes to your computer and places the program on there and comes back later to retrieve the info, that has nothing to do with a firewall.

Zonealarm works fine for me.
