When Pink Floyd band members present and past have been asked about the album and movie, they have all denied any purposeful link. All, that is, except for Roger Waters, the band leader at the time and the man behind that album. He refuses to comment at all.
This refusal has led some to believe that Waters arranged the whole thing without letting his band-mates in on the secret. One problem here is that Waters was not the sole writer--they worked together on this album. If he didn't write it all (Mason wrote "Speak to Me;" Waters, Gilmour, and Wright co-wrote "Breathe;" Wright wrote "The Great Gig in the Sky;" etc.), how could he secretly set it up so well? Another problem is that some of the songs (or parts of songs) had actually been written earlier but not used. This includes "Breathe" and "Brain Damage."
Also, Waters was not the producer of the album. Alan Parsons had that job, and thus had at least some control of timing and sound effects and the like. Indeed, Saucerful of Secrets: The Pink Floyd Odyssey, by Nicholas Schaffner, says of him: ""Parsons's most remarkable feat on Dark Side of the Moon was the immaculate reproduction of the album's myriad sound effects--the heartbeats and the footsteps, the airplanes and explosions, the recurring clocks and cash registers and their seamless integration into the music." The heartbeats and the cash registers make up two of the "hits" between the album and the movie, so he would have had to be a part of any plan to make the two coincide. Yet he has denied any connection to the movie.

Then someone needs to tell this guy. I got me useless piece of info from him lol.

If you know about the two different writing styles you would know that roger wrote the dark side.....It would be nothing without davids input....but as david has said before and is commonly known...Roger wrote the dark side of the moon....

Except for the track Great Gig in the Sky... which again if you know anything about writing music, was written by Richard Wright the keyboard player...this is very obvious by the usage of major seventh and sixth chords commonly found in jazz. This track also includes a first take improvisation by Clare Torry who was told to just sing ohhs and ahhs but don't sing any words.

About the movie, the 3 backup singers in darkside sing the exact mood and feeling that dorthy was experiencing during the movie.

Wiggles 05-30-2005 09:30 PM

still have yet to do it, my friend did it and said its amazing, just haven't had the chance to yet.

Could it be the work of.....SATAN?

r-c-e 05-30-2005 10:04 PM

Its pretty cool but I wouldn't say its amazing or groundbreaking.

Tin man saying "there is no dark side of the moon really...." was a pretty cool effect though :)

The fact that he can't even spell "Gilmour" right is probably a good sign he's clueless.

FelixFlow 05-31-2005 12:07 AM

so what's the verdict on this, was it just coincidence or was it planned ? ?

and if it was just coincidence, how in the hell did this first get "discovered" ??

You're correct about the writing credit, but do you think guitarists can't compose using major seventh and I assume you mean add6 (add13) chords? :helpme

Man... I don't touch anything any more but DAMN we had some good times on acid and shrooms when I was younger. Just incredible.

mardigras 05-31-2005 01:56 AM

Went to see a "Dark Side of the Rainbow" show 7 or 8 years ago. It was a computer syncronized show that combined the movie & album, slide overlays and laser animations. They served drinks and a good time was had by all :thumbsup
