Microsoft's Anti Spyware App -- Tried it yet?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Anyone try it yet? I wonder how it compares to Lavasoft's adaware and S + D

After Shock Media 05-29-2005 03:13 PM

Yes I have and I personally think it is much better than both of what you mentioned.

UniqueMovies 05-29-2005 03:14 PM

It's the best I ever tried.

TTiger 05-29-2005 03:14 PM

the best one
:thumbsup

Ice 05-29-2005 03:15 PM

I find it works very well Gene... give it a try

Terry 05-29-2005 03:16 PM

Really??? MS has made something that everyone loves.. is this a joke thread?

Judas_Hansen 05-29-2005 03:17 PM

Yes - its a great program, but dont find all spyware yet.. They are working hard to get the rest of the blacklists incorporated in the definition files... I think it will one of the best, when its done.

But there are 2 sides to that program
Bad: Microsoft is not good at finding they own backdoors to protect the OS
Good: They know what should be running in the background, and how to remove it from the system

Something has to make up for all those XP issues. Man, that thing's been patched more times than the Skipper's boat in Gilligan's Island :helpme :(

No it is good, but MS didn't make it, they just brought another company and rebadged the application as MS.

The same way they did with Age of Empires I (still the best RTS game, at least in my opinion). I believe the original maker of the spyware app was GIANT Software.

Yeah I think you're right.

The only bad thing about it is that it keep trying to remove my casino-on-net software.. .which I actually want to keep.

Correction: Microsoft acquired the anti-spyware company GIANT, then modified the program.

By the way I ran the scan and didn't have any spareware on my machine,
Must be Firefox :thumbsup

2HousePlague 05-30-2005 06:04 AM

It "seems" to be doing a lot of work (caching constantly), and interrupts me a lot -- can anyone tell me how to close one of those notification windows without taking any action (as in, "okay maybe later") -- because the windows don't close unless you let the program "defend" you, but then it shuts down all my browser windows -- so, i'm like -- okay -- i can suffer 20% of my screen being covered, or i can let all my browsers get shut down and navigate back to all the pages I was viewing -- I hope I'm just missing the toggle for this option somewhere -- quite annoying otherwise.

i run it on the wofes PC, but when i tried it on mine, FTP stopped working and a few other apps. Could not figure out how to keep it and still have everything work right, so i canned it.

$5 submissions 05-30-2005 06:19 AM

This thing's pretty tight. Even bagged that annoying GEO-IP specific browser hijack crap. Good stuff.

Praguer 05-30-2005 06:24 AM

It's the only one I use now
