Why do affiliates sign up for programs...

And then dont do shit to promote them! :disgust

Snake Doctor 05-29-2005 08:40 AM

I think alot of them want to see your promo tools, hosted galleries, or free content....and then if they don't like them they move on.

When I opened my program I decided to put all the promo tools and hosted galleries right out there in the open, so a pretty high % of people who sign up for my program do send some traffic.

chances are that if the program gave a peak into the admin area before the signup, they wouldn't have that many people sign up and not do anything.

often times its b/c the sponsors front page doesn't give enough information, and i'd have to sign up to find out if its got what im looking for.

Pretty much sums it up, and as an affiliate I do like it when, as you said programs put the tools out in the open because it can / does save both parties time and hastle should it not be a good fit. I'm not saying put every hosted gallery out there (becaus a lot of freeloading surfers have figured out they can just click through to aff. programs and grab galleries), but at least a sampling of them and an indication of how many.

It is annoying when you signup for a sponsor that promises "tons of hosted galleries" (when what you are looking for is hosted galleries) when in fact they only have 5.

you often have to sign up to se what content is avalible.
Instead off blasting the webmaster you should ask yourselv "what is wrong with my site since the webmasters dont promote it" You have their email-adress, send them a mail and ask, and do someting about it

Snake Doctor 05-29-2005 08:50 AM

Most program owners I've talked to have told me that only 10% of affiliates who sign up will send any noticeable amount of traffic.

So if you want 100 active affiliates then you need to get 1000 people to sign up for your program. :2 cents:

A lot of the times when I sign up for a affiliate program looking for decent tools. If those tools arent there I find a sponsor who does have those tools.

Generally i'm looking for enough FHG/FHS to build with. :) If there is only 5-6 for example I move on.

surfers become very smart ... :2 cents:

I'm signed up to 300 sponsors (including ones that use CCBilll Affiliate program) but I only promote 5 sponsors.

I signup to every sponsor to check out their FHG and content, the majority suck.

Doc911 05-29-2005 09:14 AM

there are pros and cons of both.

If you make your tools public then the surfers just rape your FHG's and don't sign up.
If you make them private to webmasters. Surfers sign up as webmasters to rape your gallerys and don't sign up.

I've found that by verifing webmasters, before allowing access to FHG's and tools, increases sign ups. The surfers, having no adult website of their own, are declined and the percentage of webmasters actively promoting increases.

Why not simply contact anyone of the company and ask for the decent tools you need? You signed up already and something must interested you to sign-up.

Make some examples of galleries+content available in the non member area.

mardigras 05-29-2005 09:28 AM

Many times a program will claim to have galleries for all of their sites then won't actually have any for the site I wanted to promote. This is most often true with sponsors that have straight and gay sites. The gay sites won't have any galleries at all or the straight sites will have new and often updated galleries while the gay sites will have a few from 2 or 3 years ago.

yes.. before you had to send emails and ask for content, now they just throw it at you - no questions asked

Robertf 05-29-2005 09:47 AM

lol, all affiliate programs tell they have teh best tools .. and how you have to signup to them ... once you do ... it's often not the best tools ... makes you wonder about their sites too
