FACT: Martial Arts = not useful to 21st Century Man.

I was watching Walker Texas Ranger a few minutes ago and was overcome by teh sudden realization of what an absolute void martial arts is as a life-long dicipline. Time, money and energy goes in, JACK SHIT comes out.

If you're in it because you're "lost" and need the "organisation", the "philosophy" aspect of the various forms can easily be covered by much newer, better organisational philosophies like Scientology ( http://sexy-celebs.net/hotlink/boring.gif), not to mention various self-help books/programs.

And the fighting skills? Please. In the modern age usch skills simply have no practical application. If you're wealthy enouch to take the lessons and buy the gear, then you can afford to not be living in a dangerous situation. There is no Jeff Speakman "life path" for civilized people in the Western World. Most of the time it's just some jerk-off applying Jeff Speakman-style hurt to people who don't deserve it.

If you're in it for the sport, fine -- in that capacity, I'll allow that it's as good as anything else. But anyone who's come within 10 feet of any adult "dojo" ( http://sexy-celebs.net/hotlink/boring.gif) knows that 90% of the "students" are Jeff Speakman wannabes.

Besides, any fighting skills you might learn are negated in real world situations, where the element of surprise rules all. When the fight isn't pre-meditated and "refereed" according to certain rules, even Speakman is a loser. (in a real street fight, he'd be knifed in the liver by a 15 year-old cholo gangbanger who won't wait for the "kata" moves to come around)

Let's go back to Walker for an example.

Enter Chuck Norris = spoiled and governed entirely by "dojo" rules. Probably never been in a street fight in his life.

If Chuck Norris stepped to me, I would make sure he didn't have the luxury of fighting an opponent who played by "dojo" rules. I'm not incredibly strong but I guarantee you the old man would not see it coming. Inside of 2 minutes and Norris would be caught in a very embarassing LMD -- I walk away unharmed.

Martial Artists = OWNED http://sexy-celebs.net/hotlink/lol.gif

Jeff Speakman = confirmed homosexual.

Chuck Norris = old ass, failed action star with questionable ethnic heritage.

LMD = Little Man Down situaton (he's like 5'8").

speaking of chuck's, one who is a local around here -- Chuck Liddell -- I would NOT want to play out your theory with in a real world fight...I doubt his 'dojo' rules are quite as wussed out as you're thinking...

Martial Arts = Great Discipline
Jeff Speakman = Awesome American Kenpo Artist
Chuck Norris = Goes To My Church Here In Plano and Is An Awesome Guy
LMD = Kicks Your Azz Anytime

Chuck Norris is a Brazillian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt.

Dark Jedi would kick his ass as much as he's 5 foot 5 and weighs 140lbs.

CDSmith 05-27-2005 01:05 PM

Dipshit Jedi self-owns again.

Moron's who think fighting on tv and in the movies are real are one step up from the idiots who think the WWE is real.

I'm not sure sometimes if they aren't just even.

Actually I remember being told that Chuck Norris used to train with Bruce Lee back in the day. Apparently they would sometimes walk into bad neighborhood bars and pick fights just to get some real life practice in.

Not sure if it's true or not...but I was told this a while ago by a few people.

And if it's true then Chuck Norris is over the hill now...but back in the day he must have been pretty bad ass in a real fight.

You mean the Hulk Hogan wasn't really a hero? Say it isn't so. Don't tell me Sgt Slaughter wasn't really a sergeant :(

chadglni 05-27-2005 01:26 PM

The reason Jedi would lose in a fight with any of the above mentioned is that your most important asset is inteligence. The mere fact that he thinks martial arts experts would get their asses kicked in a standard street fight is comical.

Get your ass online!

Jim_Gunn 05-27-2005 01:37 PM

There are several martial arts discipines that teach practical fighting techniques that would serve the user well in a street fight if he was in shape and practiced. As a matter of fact the gym where I work out is owned by a master of seven or eight different martial arts disciplines and he teaches a class to law enforecement personnel and private citizens specifically for self-defense in real life situations, including techniques like disarming an attacker with a weapon. A lot of other elements certainly come into play in a street fight like surprise, weapons, multiple attackers, who is more drunk etc, but knowing some martial arts sure isn't going to hurt if you are strong and aren't scared to fight.

Rinaldo 05-27-2005 01:41 PM

21st century man is a pussy, our kids will all be pussies. when We were kids we played in the street and nearly were hit by cars, I played tackle football in the street, I climbed trees in my front yard that were nearly 100' tall. I fought atleast 50 times before I was 15.

Today's kids, don't play outside they play xbox and playstation 2, they jerk off thinking about playstation 3's. They probably laugh thinking we lie that we played any contact sport without wearing protection. And the trees that used to exist to climb are almost all gone.

Modern man has no use for martial artsbecuase the goddamn people that don't let their kids go outside and play are the same people that sue you for anything you fucking do to them. INcluding their son slipping while at your son's pool party (happened to my dad) and the kids parents sue you for your home. BS.

The men in this country are a bunch of fags, teh real men are fighting right now for a war they don' teven understand.

Not even the best martial artist can match a gun.

It can actually get you in trouble these days. Saw once a fight break out outside a pool hall, and one of the fighters knew Tao Kwon Do and kicked the niggas ass.

Later, Tae Kwon Do guy got shot twice by an "unidentified man".

Short Irish Guy 05-27-2005 01:52 PM

For hand to hand fights and street fights without a gun - Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is perfect for self-defense

If you find yourself in a hand to hand fight you're a moron.

Its more advantagous to invest your time/money into where you live and how you secure your life vs training martial arts.

The payback of living in a good neighborhood, having a decent security system, decent insurance, and teaching my family to be aware and avoid dangerous situations is MUCH greater than how hard I can beat someone down.

The part where he left out the proper punctuation.

Anyway, if they all carry, then they are idiots. They waste their time/money on Martial Arts to be able to defend themselves, and in the end they rely on a handgun for protection.

Owned or what ? :1orglaugh

Very few times.
And when i did - i never let it escalate into a fight.

When i see that things are going to get ugly, I quickly grab any heavy object that is laying around and smash it into opponent. They never get a chance even to blink, much less try any of their moves.

Brawling is for idiots.

Not sure about them training together, but they did oppose each other in formal competition and Norris lost, but in that day, he was still quite advanced and I'm sure had no worries about someone like the author of this thread...

I'd me more interested in sitting and talking with Steven Seagal about his plight from his teen years til now..

Moron.

In a one to one fight, I will fuck you up 30 ways to sunday. More than one, I got my Sig 229.

Most classes I've seen the first half of the session is stretching and exercises before the training. That's more beneficial than the actual martial arts training (which does have workout benefit itself). If that's what keeps someone on an excercise regime you can hardly call it not useful for 21st century man :upsidedow

Also, most classes I've seen have been 50% or so women.

Anthony 05-27-2005 02:36 PM

Fucking moron.

Where I live it is legal for me to carry a concealed weapon.

With anything in life, you want to have the upper hand.

Only an idiot brings a rock to a gunfight. I win.

It's called escalation of force, learn it moron.

I threatened someone? Who?

Or more aptly,

YOU FEEL THREATENED?!

Fact: Dark Jedi started this thread to make himself feel better about himself after yet again being beat down by the 12 year old bully in his neighborhood who used Tae Bo he learned from his Mother's Billy Blanks tapes.

I cannot lie, sorry.

Next time Dark Jedi, just run. Don't fall down face down ass up!

You are such an idiot. Escalation of force.

I cannot shoot you for yelling at me.

I cannot shoot you for throwing a punch at me.

I can shoot you for coming at me with a rock.

I can shoot you for coming at me with a knife.

I can shoot you for pulling out a gun on me.

It's a little more indepth than this, but I dont' want to hurt your lack of reading and comprehenshion skills too much at once.
