IMO it's stupid to lie to your bank. It's none of their business you're right, but, if they don't want your business when they know what you do, go somewhere else. Going with a bank that doesn't welcome porn could end up causing your problems down the road if they find out. :2 cents:

Trax 05-27-2005 01:49 PM

what kind of banks are you guys with lol

Webby 05-27-2005 02:28 PM

DUH?? :-)

You are asking people on GFY to provide you with recommendations for offshore banks??

OK.. Seriously.... Most OS banks are fine - they sure have more cred than third party processor, irrespective of how "big" that processor is :-)

Depends where you actually live Asgard.. if you live in the US OS banks are a problem. But ya may want to look at a range of banks in Latvia, particularly one's you can signup online and have internet banking (kinda obvious!).

Here are a few to check out:

http://www.rietumu.lv/

http://www.paritate.com/

http://www.multibanka.com/eng/first.php

One point... watch the last link, - MultiBanka has been put on some blacklist by the US govt - tho that means nada cos nothing that the US govt says can be trusted to have any cred, but I'd watch em, just in case.

Rietumu is probably the best candidate - as long as they offer what you need.

Eagleman 05-27-2005 02:31 PM

Hi Chupachups! :winkwink:

Where banks end up with problems is not often of their own making - it's the idiots who try to scam em and abuse them who cause the problems:-) Also "information" from govts, like in the instance of MultiBanka, - the govt's know nada about bank dealings, so more like another "Saddam has stockpiles of WMD" bullshit. But it does give cause to raise an eyebrow :-)

We have need dealing with Latvian banks for some time and have know of others who do. So far, they have been very good and efficient at handling daily stuff - often better than any "big name banks".

But.. overall... and this applies to big name banks or os banks - never leave large sums in any one account - spread it!! (Even FDIC insurance in the US is crap and the last major banking problem in the US left other banks owing .. think around 400 million, which the US govt decided to forget to reimburse).

some people with offshore accounts were kicked off from some latvian banks (like parex.net, rietumu.lv) recently, due inability to provide them right documents they want to see (documents, like from where money comes from, accounting etc.,). I tried to bypass it by providing them only little information, what they request from me, and then i had to even fly to latvia

That is one thing ya never do is lie to your bank or avoid giving basic data. They want this 99% of the time for your protection and re "know your customer".

If you need to "hide" your bank - thats the start of the problem - eg... if you are genuinely in a situation to be able to use offshore facilities or are still resident in a home country and trying to avoid disclosure under their laws. It's far easier just to be offshore (living) from the start.
