Memorial Day - A Remembrance
[STEPPING-UP-ON-SOAPBOX]
OK, so I know that most just look at Memorial Day as just another day to kick back and take a day off to barbecue, relax, and have a beer or 12? Not for me, it has a double meaning. It?s a day to honor those that serve our freedoms and paid the ultimate price with our respect. And it?s a day that I lost one who respected ME the ultimate. Twenty-nine years ago on 31-May-1976, my Father, Bobby Dean Moore went to work. It was Memorial Day, but that didn?t matter to a perfectionist who didn?t watch the clock or the calendar. It was all about doing your best at the job, and doing what ever it takes. That set the tone of my life then and forever. My Dad, alone in an office, died that early that day of a massive heart attack. No one was there to help, being it was a National Holiday, only the cleaning crew was to find him later. He worked long hours, and most days, it was the job-well-done as his prime mission and reward. He also was a Veteran of the United States Navy as an Arial Photographer and Co-Pilot. He never sold out, and he wasn?t one to take shit, give up, or give an inch that didn?t live up to HIS standards. Now that is what MAKES a man. And so, for this Memorial Day, I?ll ask a little favor? If nothing else, find someone in the military this weekend, shake that Man?s or Woman?s hand firmly, and buy them a drink or a dinner to say THANK YOU!!! Or you could always send a little donation to fine organizations as the U.S.O. :) http://www.uso.org Hey, so what if Memorial Day is pretty much an American holiday. I know that there are webmasters here from all over the globe, so POST the URLs for the groups and organizations for those that serve YOU and YOUR rights and freedoms as well. [/STEPPING-DOWN-OFF-SOAPBOX] THANKY!!! |
Good call... especially now in these trying times. We may not all agree with current military action...
But the warriors over seas are doing their fucking jobs people... every single one of them deserves some level of respect from us. |

Your dad sounded like a hell of a man.
Great post. Sometimes the true meaning of a holiday get lost in the festivities. |
