Star wars fans, please explain this to me
I was just watching star wars and I noticed something that I haven't been able to explain to myself.
The jedis have total control over their light sabres and can turn them on and off at will. This means that even while they are fighting they can turn them on an off at will. So let's say Jedi 1 attacks Jedi 2. Jedi 1 swings and Jedi 2 parries as their light sabres strike. With real swords made of steel you can parry that way with the swords striking. However, if a Jedi can turn off his saber and on at any time, All that the attacker has to do is strike with an ON saber, and when the attacked tries to parry, he turns off his saber, the swing gets past the defender's saber and then turn it back on cutting him in half after the parry. That's what I don't understand? |
|
i have a bad feeling about this

The point is that I want it explained to me  |
thats not fair, the Jedi are all about justice.
fuck if i know haha |
You want a fictional movie that involves fictional light swords explained to you? Here's your explanation: it's a movie! You're supposed to suspend disbelief for 2 hours and enjoy yourself. Otherwise you'll find huge holes and inconsistencies with everything you watch.

Donovan will answer your question in detail, he's an expert on Jedi practices and the SW universe in general.
|
You cant just turn them on and off at will,,, you actually have to push a switch,,, so the handle would have to be in prime spot at that time

that makes no sense :error |

There is a switch on the lightsaber man..
Everyone knows this. |
they dont turn on and off instantly. they have to turn off completely before they come back on. so in the time it would take to turn off, the other guy would have an open shot

the attacker has to turn it ON on the follow through after he has passed the sabre of the defender. that happens slow enough to cut the defender on the same motion |

http://www.thewinnipegpages.com/foru...1109876228.jpg ... you could break your weapon in half. |

That could have been George Lucas' secret why Star wars remains a box office...
|
what a stupid question... because if you turned your saber off, the defenders saber would also pass thru yours and you would be sliced too...

(OK, can we move on now? LMAO!!!) |
|
Quote:
This is why in that timespan you could turn it on and off and cut the other guy before he can see it or react that's right |

Gone too far you have. |
