So, have any of you seen "Deadliest Catch" on the Discovery channel?
Is this show totally intense or what? I've had two friends that have gone crab fishing in Alaska. Very dangerous... Very scary
|
That show rocks out with its cock out :thumbsup
|
yeah.... I mean. Screw your "reality show" crap that's out there....people are actually injured, crippled and killed.
Not pretty |
love it :)
the boyfriend got me hooked on it. |
King crabs run $25 to $35 each...the danger may be somewhat worth the risk...
|
Those cameras are pretty well fixed, so you don't see how much the boats are getting tossed around... and the boats are pretty big, so you don't get the scale.... but those seas are BIG.... The way those guys work, you need one hell of a set of sea legs, (and one hell of a stomache).
I say this as a boat owner, and I've been in 15 foot seas.....SCARY. These guys are in 20 to 40 foot seas all day, FREEZING cold water, AND doing seriously hard work |
there is no money in crab fishing...
|
My buddy used to be a commercial fisherman in Alaska. Made some great coin, and sent me boxes loaded with king crab and salmon.
|
missed it, will have to check it out when it's on again

:thumbsup Great show. I wouldn't mind trying crab fishing in Alaska. It'd be one of those things I could brag about to grandchildren later down the line. Plus it sounds fun, despite the dangers. |
hmmmm.... there is going to be a marathon on memorial day monday of all the episodes....
I kind of iwish I was going to be in from of a television |

OK..... compared to being on my own boat in the keys.... ...maybe not :winkwink: |
Bin Laden should be the ultimate catch here...
|
Watch it and love it. Crazy how that's considered one of the deadliest jobs in the world. They can make some coin though...

As for being dangerous..... one of the guys that I know that did it lost two joints off of one pinky when he caught it in a line on a winch. ... meanwhile, he made $35k in 2 months at 20 years old... and had a hell of an adventure... so he thinks that it was worth it. :helpme |
