2257 and large dvd sites

with the new rules will the deluxepass type site networks be out of biz?

BV 05-24-2005 08:05 PM

why would they go out of biz? i would imagine that whomever they bought the dvds from can give them the proper docs when and if the time comes.

i think they might have trouble getting docs from ceratain companies
i doubt a company like redlight district would give out those docs, they would rather not see their content out there all over the place anymore

If those companies REFUSE they are in violation.

Those same companies could revoke licenses if they use the all so common standard one everybody uses.

One issue is whether or not this type of site operator has or can get the necessary documents.

In addition, operator of BYOT-style programs (who host the tours) will have to go through all those tours to index and cross-reference the content used in them. That is logistically challenging, but at least doable in respect of the tours which have multiple boxes, each showing caps from named movies. It will be far more of a headache to try to identify all the models used in "background" or composite graphics.

Then they'll probably get dropped.

This post made me think a bit.

Under the new changes, do brick n mortar businesses need to keep the models records on hand. Like your neihborhood porn shop? how about the corner convenience store? does each 7-11 store need to keep model docs on hand for the hustler and penthouse mags?

The regulations are clear and specific on this point.

DVD stores and magazine sellers are considered to be distributors and are therefore exempt, because they solely handle material which is required to be 2257 compliant. They do not edit, mix or in any other way act upon the material they sell/rent, therefore they are not considered to be producers as are - for example - website operators.

interesting, thanks for pointing that out

I've talked with a couple of the content providers that licenese dvd content, and both appeared to be on top of this aquiring the proper docs as we speak. I'm hoping RLD and some of the other producers will hook em up as well.

If not, oh well. Can't say I didn't make my money back 10 fold on those dvds.

Nope, only if you spam text links to FHG.

Wrong, you won't be able to get away via hotlink or iframe or frames.

So, my selling DVDs and magazines -- online -- makes me exempt, even though I post photos of sexual imagery on box covers to promote a product?

Toolz 05-25-2005 04:58 AM

There's a specific section detailing box covers, if you are using them then YES you must comply, I really suggest everyone thoroughly read this document then have their lawyer go over it with them.
