Sorry about a second CNN news thread, but this is bad

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Computer users already anxious about viruses and identity theft have new reason to worry: Hackers have found a way to lock up the electronic documents on your computer and then demand $200 over the Internet to get them back.

http://edition.cnn.com/2005/TECH/int....ap/index.html

They are calling it ransomware... I suppose it was a matter of time

Trax 05-24-2005 07:43 AM

"Security researchers at San Diego-based Websense Inc. uncovered the unusual extortion plot when a corporate customer they would not identify fell victim to the infection, which encrypted files that included documents, photographs and spreadsheets."

if your dumb enough to not have virus protect and a firewall (hardware) set up and NEVER click on links or email attachments that are suspicious then you deserve it

especially if you work in porn I have the check thousands of sites out regularly, and if Im not up to date on everything my system would be fucked. its only happened 3 times in my 9 years in the industry - nothing recent.

FF makes a MASSIVE difference as well - I have gone from 2-3 spyware/malware attacks a day to zero in the 6 or so months I moved to FF

Just in case anyone didnt know that yet :)

agreed. they can find a virus creator in a matter of days, in some shithole chicken shack in the philippines and have him in custody. i think it would be pretty obvious to most people that a virus creator demanding money would be even easier to trace.

you're probably right. i completely believe that companies like norton and mcafee hire people to create viruses just so we continue to buy their products.

Tony Montana 05-24-2005 09:05 AM

Anyone have a program premade that we can tag as a "ransomware remover"(within a few hours)? I bet we could make some bucks with google search. I have billing and can spit a nice site pretty easily.

Adult existed before 1992 ... before the net.

I started in adult in 1980 ( a bit before video ) buying theatrical rights from US andd Foreign producers:

- Her name was Lisa
- Pretty Peaches
- Baby Faces
-Debbie Does Dallas
- Opening of Misty Beethoven ...
