Why does servermatrix have such low prices?

Nothing wrong with their hosting.

They're huge so can do stuff in bulk and work to smaller margins and you only get very, very basic support so their overheads in that dept are small.

You get what you pay for but there's little wrong with them for cheap basic hosting doing the admin yourself. Probably best to look elsewhere though for 'important' stuff.

Then why so many newbies are hosted at servermatrix and so little pro's?

I see a lot of big guys in the bizz go with isprime.com even when 1 server with isprime coast like 2 servers at servermatrix.

So I assume they must be better in some way...

Ah - that makes sense. You'll find a lot of people use them here but again usually not for the more important stuff. If it's critical that it stays up you also want fast tech support that'll preferably also go into your box and do admin stuff. Mostly with SM you'll simply get a reboot, reformat or if you push hard enough a bit of hardware changed.

Ya SM is great if you can admin shit yourself, dont need any help and its not mission critical. You wont get 24-7-365 day icq-email or toll free phone support and a warm fuzzy feeling your shit is up and running smooth when your away from the pc :winkwink:

I've got a bunch of servers with SM and The Planet and have never had an issue with anything...support included.

They do provide basic support and it's quite a bit more than just a simple reboot if you need it.

They're message board has more info on running your own servers in one place than anywhere else I've come across. Even if you don't host with them, it can come in handy.

Its all about if you can run things yourself. You can get plenty of reasonable priced servers with minimal support. If you can run the box thats fine. If not you'll have to find a fully managed provider which will obviously cost you more.

Because cogent is at $10/meg (possibly lower?) for large wholesalers, and other carriers are not that far behind.

ZipServers simply re-sell ThePlanet/ServerMatrix

Nothing wrong with Server Matrix they offer a great price I think the others are way over priced. Tech support is great whatever my question they always answer with a good answer quite surprising at times.

Phone support is great they answer quick and if needed send someone to have a look at your server.

Most peoiple running porn sites know nothing about servers, so its natural if you have a large money making site youd host at a full service isp where you know your tech's name and have his pager id.

There is nothing wrong with servermatrix, and I host lots of mission critical servers there. But unless you are familiar with Linux admin, know how to do weekly updates and kernels, install firewalls, etc. Its pretty likely your server matrix server will get fucked in the ass.

If you do know all that stuff they are actually better than any "full service" isp. They are I think now the largest data center in the world. In 3 years of hosting with them I've seen about 8 minutes of downtime; I can live with that.

Because someone always says otherwise: SERVERMATRIX DOESN'T USE COGENT, IDIOT. (Unless you ask for a cogent server, clearly marked.)

Servermatrix is the best webhost i have EVER used!! I have all my sites hosted there. After going through host after host after host i have finally found the best one for the best price. And yes, i have used some adult hosts - i hated them ALL!

Servermatrix/Theplanet have unbeatable support. Each one of my tickets are answered with in 10 (if not less) mins every single time.

You cannot beat TP/SM they are the best. :thumbsup

BTW when you order a server make sure to get the "GOLD Managed Services Plans". Its just $50/m more but they will update your server with the latest software..blabla all that good stuff.
