Finally got around to watching Hotel Rwanda.
 

Amazing movie.
I have been a big fan of Don Cheadle for many years now, I don't care if his character is a good guy or a bad guy in whatever movie he will find a way for you to like him.

But this movie is just disturbing on so many levels. Kind of summed up in the one scene where Nick Nolte the UN Colonel is explaining to him that no country will step in to stop the slaughtering and says...
"You're not even n iggers, you're Africans."

Even more disturbing is to find out the French actively supplied the Hutus. We're on hand to watch one of the very first slaughters of 45,000 men, women and children and even helped dig and throw bodies into massive graves...and after that covered them up, planted grass and played volleyball on top of them.

We never learn anything from these "mistakes."
Here we are still arguing over bullshit in Iraq, when it's clear the only reason we are there is because we can get something in return, whether it's control of key points in the middle east, or oil.
While on the other hand we turned our backs on Rwanda, and what is currently going on in the Congo and other countries because they have nothing to offer us.

Awesome movie, we need more of these.

It's such a totally amazing movie, I was in tears when I saw it a couple of months ago.

And just remember who was in office when this happened, your all mighty Bill Clinton. :winkwink:

I watched it and was moved. I am not sure how we can solve some of those countries issues. The violence is so extreme.

...and you think Bob Dole would have done anything differently had he been elected? would have been the same thing...

excellent movie and agreed with Don Cheadle...he and Paul Giamatti are the two most underrated actors in Hollywood but are finally starting to get a little acclaim...

The slaughter was more about 1 million lives then 45 thousands ...

I know aproximately how many people died...but was pointing out a specific incident at a technical college where Tutsis were told by the local village's Hutu mayor to go to be protected and then over the next 3 days Hutus while French soldiers watched started to massacre the 45,000 that gathered there.

Fuck the French and anything they have to say about the US...cowardly murderous and yes imperialistic fucks.

And I agree about Paul Giamatti...another one of my favorite actors...he did an excellent job in American Splendor.

You should watch the DVD extras...they have the REAL guy go back to Rwanda for the first time in like 8 years. He was kicked out of there for some reason...He lives in Belgium now

This is the difference between me and toe the line fascists...I know Clinton was in office, and I have said on this board many times that I feel that incidents like 9/11 were in large part due to his ineffectiveness at handling such matters like Somalia etc.

However, in light of where we are now, I'd still rather have him than that ass clown who's in office right now.

Yeah I did watch it..and he wasn't kicked out he fled with his family and the rest of those who were in the Mille Colline hotel.

In the documentary part they said something about him being banished or something...i cant remember the exact word they used. I thought it was a like term however

Well he fled first, and then I think after that because he was considered a sympathizer he was banished

I keep meaning to rent some of the recent documentaries about the area...I know about the situations in the surrounding areas to Rwanda...but anyone know exactly what's going on in the present with the Hutu/Tutsi situation?

It's nice to see Paul Rusesabagina getting the recognition he deserves. I think the movie could have gone into more detail over Romeo Dallaire's effort to get more support troops sent to Rwanda and how he and his forces refused to leave Rwanda even when he was ordered to.

and to think that was only 10 years ago , and one of the truly forgotten wars and tragedies (up till this movie )

Amazing movie.
Everybody who hasn't seen it yet should watch it.
I hope the global conscience doesn't forget and that things like this won't be allowed to happen in the future...

I've read a LOT about what happened back then, and although I honestly think that I have very thick skin, I don't think I'll ever watch "Hotel Rwanda", it'll simply freak me out.

I am not eassily impressed with anything, but I guess I should say that this movie is a verygood one!
