CMS systems ?

What are the best ones out there ? there are couple new versions out since I've been looking .

RightHandMan 05-21-2005 02:01 PM

Ive Asked this question on here a bunch of times...the right one depends on what you plan to do with your site....what kind of site is it?

Hinc 05-21-2005 02:02 PM

Mambo is free and nice....
But it all depends what u need it for.

Doctor Dre 05-21-2005 02:08 PM

Possibility to make different member aeras (trial ccbill or epoch).

Possibility to queue the content so we can place 6 months of upgrades upfront if we want too.

Maybe a chat for the members ...

Greg MissionD 05-21-2005 02:15 PM

Dre - ya never answer ya MSN, did you get the final toon from us?

anyways read this
Content Management Scripts - What To Look For.

As more and more adult webmasters look towards starting their own pay sites other than the obvious costs involved with design, hosting, traffic, content, etc there is also a very large time cost to factor into the way you both manage and promote your new adult pay sites with that said, one of the easiest ways to cut down the amount of 'physical' time we spend on our sites is to utilize various scripts to manage our members areas for us.

Content Management - The Basics.

The concept of content management has been around for many years however, it is only recently in the past 24 months when this type of script has become more and more popular with many of the smaller pay site owners. Of course many of the large affiliate programs have had content management systems in place for many years however the vast majority of these scripts were either priced to highly for smaller paysite owners to afford or, they were custom written by the large affiliate programs themselves. In essence however, the primary focus of such scripts is to cut down the amount of time a paysite owner needs to spend on 'updating' the inside of their members to the absolute minimum.

Content Management Systems - Choosing The Right One For You.

As with any type of purchase we need to be aware of the different types of scripts available as well as the different features we will need them to have that will work for us on an individual basis. Just because everyone else is using 'CMS A' that doesn't mean that is the CMS for you.

The first steps you should take when looking for a content management script is to make a list of the types of features you need, are you going to be using it to manage one paysite or multiple paysites? Will you use a variety of content types, stills, movies, stories, feeds? How is the content handled by the script and, more importantly, how much will the script cost you?

Once you have made this feature list the next thing you need to do is to go 'window shopping' on all of the CMS sites you can find for example, Content God, Adult Web Ware, Mansion Productions, CMS and many others. Look at the features they include in their scripts and compare those features to the ones you need. Also, see if the sites have live working demo's online many do and this will play an integral part of the process of choosing the right script for you. After all, if you cant use the content management script you purchase then it is no good to you.

Content Management Made Easy.

Now that you have hopefully found a script that you want to utilize on your server to manage your paysites back ends you should ask for other peoples opinions on it, does anyone else use the system you are looking at? Have they noticed any problems with its operation and, more importantly, how is the support offered by the company who developed the script. Only then once you have all of that information should you proceed to make your purchase.

CMS - Overview.

All in all content management scripts are an invaluable tool to paysite owners both large and small and everyone in the adult industry will tell you there is never enough time in the day to finish off everything that you want however, by utilizing a content management script on your paysite members area you can at least start to save yourself some time when it comes to updates.

Hmmm yeah....i´ve been looking for a good CMS for my members areas too - but sadly, im too poor (or cheap) for the alternatives i´ve seen so far....(apart from the free one´s like mambo, but thats better suited for free sites)

After Shock Media 05-21-2005 03:19 PM

Adultwebware.com Ask around, many sites use it and love it.
Just contact icq: 135982156 or email aftershockmedia @ gmail.com for a walk through and invite code if you desire to purchase.

Free one week trial as well to test it out on your side, before you subject your members to it.

Hmmmm i´d like to see it fungi

Mambo rucks - SEO freindly URL's hundreds of mods, and you install mods in a simple drop, and click fashion... works like a charm.

Some of the Styles/templates are SLOV, so get a basic one, and build your own from there

pocketkangaroo 05-21-2005 04:00 PM

I highly suggest Mambo as well.

However, having a custom built one can often times be better if there are a lot of specific things you need it for.

AkiraSS 05-21-2005 04:23 PM

mambo too
I am finishing the V2 of http://www.kittencash.com based on Mambo

Doctor Dre 05-21-2005 04:32 PM

What's the url to mambo ?

I don't mind paying the price if there is anything better ...

Q for those who are using CMS for member areas.

Can you still keep the layout of your member areas as you designed them, or do you have to use templates that come with the CMS? I am thinking of buying one (Awiz) but I don't want to lose the look of my members area as it took a lot of time to design.

Also, mambo users, isn't that for something like a blog site? Or can it be used to run a member area automatically such as daily updates, rotating out old content etc?

Thanks! :thumbsup

Stewie 05-21-2005 09:44 PM

bump... curious about the latest CMSs myself.

Hinc 05-22-2005 02:21 AM

nudecanada: mambo is highly flexible, and it´s probably possible. However, I couldnt get it to work satisfactory on members areas.

In regards to adultwebware the answer is yes. It comes stock with one template but it is infinitly flexable in the way you use the actual CMS so it can have any design incorperated into. You can either have adultwebware do it for you for a fee, or you can read the documentation provided and intergrate it yourself with some knowlege of how php and smarty codes work.

with sitedepth all you need is basic knowledge of html to change the templates....easy shit, no php knowledge needed

but i will be god damned if they haven't completely ruined their rep in this biz by not keeping us all updated

MassiveDollars - DonPaul 05-22-2005 02:53 AM

For membersarea we use MAS from Mansion Productions and it rocks :D Get hold of Oystein or Garry for more info.

I've heard many good things about Mambo too, but that has mainly been from mainstream, there are TONS of sites using it.

DutchTeenCash 05-22-2005 03:13 AM

did you guys see that mamo -> jango note? AU2500 for the real edition... looks like they changed a few things...

XOOPS....its free....its easy on the cpu....easy on resources....and it's got a community of geeks supporting it. I got it running a brand new 20k a day humor site with ease.

Validus 02-18-2006 03:40 AM

MAS from Mansion Productions is great.

fraggle 02-18-2006 03:56 AM

Sitedepth and MAS seem to be the best around

Mambo is only worth considering if your on a budget and want to mess around with modules and hacks to get it managing a members area. Its meant more for news, article sites

xxxjay 02-18-2006 03:58 AM

OCCash has been through about all of them and they all seem to suck...the only one I've seen work really well is Oystien's solution and unfortuently...it's the only one we didn't try.

Check out our CARMA product too, not to be missed. We are new in the market, so not a lot of places use us... YET! :)

CARMA v1.1 being released soon too!

nata25 02-18-2006 04:26 AM

mambo is nice tool, it team deserve respect!
But paysite require a bit more specific thing.
What about:
1) protection of stolen passwords?
2) auto-updates and even more - endless auto-looping of updates?
3) blocking of unwanted countries from the whole site?
4) auto-generation of thumbs from pics and movies?
5) limited access for trial subscribers?
6) built-in banners, votings, favorites, tickets, picpost, slodeshow and etc, etc systems?

So look at the aWIZ Paysite manager - for such low price you will never find such level of functionality, quality and support. :thumbsup

Based on my experience you do not want to hand adultwebware your members navigation design & layout and ask them to make it work.

If this is your goal and you do not want to pay the price for MAS or Carma, then check out Xtract (http://www.ecoders.biz/). Very flexible CMS, they will convert your design into templates and provide outstanding support.

Why not? What happened to you?

quantum-x 02-22-2006 10:55 AM

In regard to Adult-

First and foremost, the *largest* difference is support. Mainly SD vs CARMA.
I could get at least 5 people to post here shooting down SD. If you have a product that runs, awesome. If it breaks, I hope you manage to get it fixed in a timely fashion.
CARMA support is great. There's a comprehensive knowledge base, and you know that sending a ticket will get you a response, usually in a few hours, and always less than 24. Work and help are always free. Mods generally are too. They're helping us migrate all our content from SD (and that's a lot), FOC.

Comparing functions:
SD Templates vs. CARMA templates
SD uses quite a restrictive templating system. You're very muchly limited to doing what SD wants to do. You can't, for example, list 3 pictures, insert a teaser shot from another site, insert a few more.
CARMA uses SMARTY is its templating system - for anyone who knows about it, that's really enough said. You can do ANYTHING with your templates.
Example? I converted 5 members areas into WAP (mobile phone compatible) areas in under 2 hours. I'd never have been able to do it in SD.

Content:
Without seriously using custom variables, it's hard to categorise your content in SD. You have to put your content into a section, which will classify it (ie, Solo girls, Masturbation) whereas in CARMA, you classify the content.
You can set - Location (as many as you need), say 'Outdoors', 'In the Park' - the type - Softcore, Straight.. The Actor 'Raven Riley' (and the system knows from previous sets that Raven Riley is a 19yo brunette with a latina type body, b cup breasts, shaved pussy and long hair).. and the categories, again as many as you want.. say.. Solo, Masutbation, Public Nudity, Orgasm - you make up as many as you need.

That done - when creating rules to update your site, you can very easily pinpoint content - so you can say (and it is literally this specific)
Release 'at least' '2' sets of 'solo or orgasm' content where the actor is 'raven riley' or has 'brown hair' every 'one week'

Set up a few rules like that, and your site updates, with variety.
IIRC, in SD, you can only set the publish date for sets, and release content (you can't specify types)

Of course, it ties in with NATS, and will also tie in SPARTA - so you can see exactly what member downloaded what, see which affiliates sent who, and also create memer's areas around these variables (ie: members older than 2 weeks get bonuses.. or whatever you want to do)

That said any done, both handle member's areas, and both do good jobs.
To reiterate, the main difference is support, I believe. I do templating / programming / support for both SD and CARMA, and I'm only going from my experiences and my clients' comments.

In regards to Non adult - Mambo / Joomla seem to be the way to go, but FUCK they're clunky in some aspects

Hope this helps someone

quantum-x 02-22-2006 10:57 AM

I have a little motto...
IF you can imagine it, CARMA can do it. And it's not a lie. You just need to be creative.

BTW - if you're looking into CARMA - mention my name Simon / Quantum-X - and will be looked after for sure.
