I don't think exclusivity is a necessity, depending on your traffic... you have to convince them that you can deliver exactly what they want right now.

There are a lot of good non-exclusive sites out there, but they update twice a weekly and have a shit load of content that retains.

I don't really care about the backend unless it's a recurring program. If the traffic I send does alright there $$$ wise I am happy. I have fairly good quality traffic since I geo-ip filter it and always link to sponsors through a FPA type landing page.

No sense wasting the non buyers.. I can always use them for something. :D

Since I mostly promote PPS sponsors, nope, I don't care. Its in their best interest to do so to retain members though.
