I thought that. There is no way they are going to want to end a franchise like Star Wars.

when all the people die that were alive when the first star wars came out the fan base will lower drastically.

I doubt there will be any more with Lucas at the helm.. But he'll probably sell the rights at some point to provide even more millions for his kids.

Apparently from what I've read, the emperor doesn't die when Darth Vader flings him overboard, he later comes back and tries to re-establish his forces again, Luke finally finishes him off and then establishes a Jedi Training School!

So there's scope for more films.....

Lucas says no. He has already announced two TV series starting in 2007. One that takes place between Episode 3 and 4 and one other that hasn't been revealed yet.

originally there was supposed to be 9 Star Wars movies but the other 3 wont be made. Lucas has already said this.

Lucas wrote an outline for 7,8,and 9 but he decided to not make them. He said he was too old, and didn't want to let someone else do it (Wrong). He also said star wars is the story of Darth Vader and without him meh. Or something to that effect.


EDIT: unlike any other major movie franchise the rights are owned by one person, not a lot of people or a corporation. After lucas dies who knows what will happen. Until then I wouldn't expect a 7,8, & 9.

He'll come around to the idea, or his estate will when he kicks it... like greedy fuckers they'll make em.

dark horse aquired a licience to do the story after return of the jedi.

there are books as well if he does do these movies he will either bound by the stories created or he will step on the toes of the liciencees.

I thought it one of the books after Jedi it was revealed that the Emperor actually had a school of sith that he had kept secret?

in an interview he said he wasn't going to do them..

It was 20 years between #6 and #1, so "patience, you must have" :)

everyone I know at the very least knows about and probably likes star wars. It will never die.
