Is there an explanation why some sites/pages can get 1st page top listings for certain keywords/phrases in Yahoo! and those sites/pages can;t be found anywhere in Google for the same keywords/phrases?

because their algos are different

google and yahoo use different algo's in calculating site position perhaps?

Its actually very normal because some optimizing techniques for one will actually hurt the other...

That's not necessarily true, I've had sites less than a week old rank high for certain keywords in Google. There is a number of factors which apply to a domain on whether or not the sandbox effect applies too it! One for instance is getting far too many links in a very short space of time can apply the sandbox effect to your site from Google.

Yeah, just search google for index reports... Just type in your URL

It'll show you what pages each of the search engines have indexed.

Sandbox is for pussies.. just keep making shit. Google won't sandbox you for ever... So make your shit and it goes like this,

Google grabs it on day 2 or 3... You are thinking about wiping the ass with 100 dollar bills.
MSN grabs it on end of week one or starting week 2. You want to gold plate the bills before wiping your ass now.
Google drops your ass on week 3. You think the world has just ended.
Yahoo picks it up on week 5. A new hope?
MSN is doing 1st or 2nd result on month 2.
Yahoo is doing top 5 for month 2.
Google puts you on page 2 for month 3
MSN puts you on result 3 - 7 for month 3
Yahoo has you at 4 to 8 for month 3
Google puts you on page 1 for month 4
Yahoo has you also on page 1 for month 4
MSN has you on page 2 for month 4...

Now if you made something else every other day for this time period, guess what, you can still gold plate your 100's for toilet paper because you also have something on googles 1st page, yahoo's 1st page and MSN's first page...

yep, just gotta keep building pages and diff types of pages. Some will hit good and some won't. If google aignt doing it, i'm sure either msn or yahoo is.
