Do creditcard companies (visa, mastercard etc) own the internet?
Nothing 2257 related but please correct me whats wrong with my thinking pattern.
Just imagine they would stop doing internet transactions or any sales initiated from the internet (not possible and would never happen but just imagine) that would kill lets say 80% of the internet turnover? The only people making money from the internet would be isp's and this place would turn into a service/informational network possibly regulated by governments because nobody else has interest in the network and to defend it. It would turn websites like amazon and the zillion smaller retailers worldwide in online catalogs just like we had them 40 years ago. Targetting the major credit card companies (all located in the Us) gives the Us government control over the internet worldwide. |
Visa and Mastercard own the Government also

nothing wrong with your thinking Chris.
I would love to save the internet if that happens with some European based non-creditcard billing solutions ;-) |
They obviously have a great interest in the online market. I think they would cut their own throats pretty deep if they would stop doing internet transactions :pimp

They own it now, sure. But don't think it would stop the internet. Alternative billing methods would jump up along the lines of paypal, where you add funds via your bank account, etc.
It would kill turnover for a long time, but it wouldn't be the end. I am sure Google, Yahoo, etc would jump in on the alternative market big time and they would be big enough names ot eventually help fill the void. |
