Which Hosts Have Their Own NOC(s)?

National-Net obviously does, I know Swiftwill has at least one, and I imagine Webair does too.

Who else is there that allow adult? I imagine there are more than 20?

Matt

pradaboy 05-17-2005 11:15 AM

ISPrime :2 cents:

Nysus 05-17-2005 11:23 AM

Thanks...

Hmmm.. JupiterHosting is their own NOC?

Matt

Paulzy 05-17-2005 11:34 AM

IdealBandwidth, ExtremeRack, and AlphaRed have their own datacenters.

Rich 05-17-2005 12:13 PM

natnet is another.

Nysus 05-17-2005 12:44 PM

Didn't realize they changed their name. Thanks for reminding though.

We have 2 data centers in downtown Tampa, 1 in Austin, 1 in Chicago, 1 in Vancouver, 1 in Sydney, 1 in London, and I think multiple in Korea with Paris on the way.

XPays 05-17-2005 01:01 PM

we do but it is not for partitioning

SinisterStudios 05-17-2005 01:31 PM

We have our own Noc too, but not sure what that proves? Anyone who does hosting should have a Noc, if they dont run, run fast. You should be asking what hosting companies have their own AS numbers and own their own IP space.

Ycaza 05-17-2005 02:03 PM

Yep NOC here too and your frindly neighborhood mad scientist/nee sales dude is a real network engineer so if you like you can use me as NOC too, everyone does anyway.at least in this case when you call the sales guy he knows whats goin on and can do something about it

ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID?
Any host who think's theyre a big shot because they have an AS# and their own IP space, shouldn't have any customers.

What a fucking idiot.

Theo 05-17-2005 06:57 PM

let the host drama begin

Alpha Red is great, management is better than any other hosting, even those everyone whines (excuse me promotes) about here on GFY.

Unlike these other fuckers, like the 2 above my post, they have a REAL datacenter, that they PRIVATELY own and operate. NOT collocation inside some other datacenter.

Here is a list of providers who DO NOT OWN their datacenter, but rather rent space and COLLOCATE inside another datacenter:

SplitInfinity
PhatServers
ISPrime
ServerProvider (resells splitinfinity)
OC3 hosting or whatever theyre called (post right above mine)
SinisterHosting (or whatever theyre calling; post above mine)
ATCI
Hostive
Ch00pa
MojoHost

Those are the ones off the top of my head who DO NOT, GUARANTEED, have their OWN datacenters. If they claim otherwise, theyre blatantly lying, and anyone with a clue can verify that they do not own their datacenters.

The following DO have their own NOCs, to the best of my knowledge:

NatNet
Alpha Red
Webair
IdealBandwidth
ServerMatrix/ThePlanet
EV1
ExtremeRack

So you can see not many do, and a lot lie their ass off.

OK....Normally I dont get into these types of threads, but I am afraid that my press release may have sparked some controversy here so I want to be sure that everyone understands. It seems that many people do not really know what a NOC is.....A NOC is *not* a Data Center. Let me see if I can put this in easy to understand form....

A Data Center is a room that houses servers, routers, switches, electricity, air conditioning, and lots of cables. This room is usually kept at about 68 degrees and is not the most fun place in the world to work at for hours and hours at the time.

A NOC (or Network Operations Center) is a room where 24 hours a day System Administrators and Network Engineers sit in front of screens and answer phone calls and monitor stuff. It is kept at a nice 74 degrees and usually is attached to another room where tons of Mountain Dew and KitKats are kept....(see Break Room) :)

Definition of Network Operations Center according to dictionary.com

Seriously, there are very few people who operate a "true" NOC and there are even less that operate their own, privately held Data Center. I have not toured most of my competitors so I don't know first hand who operates what, but I can tell you that it is less than you would think.

Yeah most people do confuse a data center as a NOC, but most good companies have a NOC in the same place as the data center not some rented space and do the NOC stuff via ssh..
You dont like to be in data centers? I love them nice and cool and nice air flow and peaceful haha i dont know why but i love data centers..

I totally agree that most good companies have their NOC and their Data Center extremely close by...usually separated by only a wall or maybe a short elevator ride. You are exactly right.

As for being in the DC, I dont really know you but it sounds like you are a true geek (said with the highest of compliments). All true geeks say the exact same thing when they are touring a real DC. Most of them will get a hard on just looking at the setup...until you have to spend about 10 hours inside. I cant speak for others, but I know with a couple of thousand servers humming and over 100 Tons of A/C blowing it is cold and loud...nothing peaceful about it :)

lol, true i just like the hum of computers and how its a steady temp in there, not sure why but i love em :D i used to sit and do web designing at a job i had in their data center rather than sitting at a desk lol

rounders 05-17-2005 11:31 PM

nectartech does also

Ycaza 05-18-2005 12:31 AM

actually we have our own data center in downtown LA. all our privately hostted servers are there, but if you want to have bandwith in equinix or 1 wilshire or 1200 west 7th or the quinby building or in the bay are or vancouver or seattle where we also operate hosting facilities, both private and rented, you can have it. So please know before you go. No Isp on here has the peering we do. Please if you like don't use us, but quietly we are becoming a presence in adult. Thanks to our staff and customers, hey anyway thats enough bs from me. Point it is don't make assumptions.

baddog 05-18-2005 01:21 AM

SweetT: OT, but is there a way I can contact you, or could you please contact me? ICQ 16075497 works for me.

Thank you in advance.

Hal 05-18-2005 01:31 AM

do Liquidweb.com own their own data centre?
anybody use them?

goBigtime 05-18-2005 01:51 AM

Sadly, having a datacenter does not always = having a 24/7 staffed NOC. :Oh crap

theFeTiShLaDy 05-18-2005 01:51 AM

Alphared has their own NOC which is based in Houston.

Ycaza 05-18-2005 02:16 AM

if you have ever spent 30 or so hours in the data center you know real pain. Funny thing, I have been a network engineer/CTO for 5 years and i still kinda get a little flushed in a new datacenter, even those lame dirty telecomhotels in some places. I like to bring submissive girls to ones where we have lots of cages.....

Yup im the biggest idiot on GFY, i have been in commercial hosting for the past 8 years and have many large Fortune 1000 companies as our clients but im the idiot. Sorry i have no idea what im talking about and ill go crawl back under my rock since you are the king of the hosting world and i have to bow down to you. :321GFY

justsexxx 05-18-2005 07:38 AM

I know isprime is located in the building where all servers are. So when there is a problem, then can walk in a few minutes to my server.(if needed)

However, they do not own the DC they use. (as far as I know) Of course they have their own ip's etc. And also the BW providers thay carry are many many
http://www.fixedorbit.com/AS/23/AS23393.htm

Not sure what having an AS number means since I'm just a user. But they do have their own :)
