I have come to believe that i have become a gambling addict...

we used to go to the casino once every 2-3 weeks, just for fun
and then we used to go once a week

and the past 2 weeks it has become twice a week, and i don't like it one bit

sure I never go with more than 1000$ (usually 300-500$), which is less than what I make in the same period, and I do win sometimes, but I don't like the fact that I have to go to the casino and gamble in order to have fun

no I do NOT think I can beat the odds
no I do NOT go there to MAKE money

but once Im there, I play until every penny in my wallet is gone, and as I said, I have been going twice a week

I Also installed this poker proggy today and played the internet blackjack on that thing, which, after having lost my money, really upset me that I actually gambled online (non-poker): something I have told myself I would never do

about the casinos, my partner and I (and his girlfriend) go simply because we don't know what else to do
we watch movies 3-4 times a week already, clubbing is way overdone (we used to club 3 days a week last summer), and the only restaurant open 24 hours got REALLY boring

so we simply go for fun
but at the end of the day, win or lose, I always regret going to the casino or gambling online simply because it was not the wisest of things to do... and that there should be something as entertaining and less harmful I could do...

any comments/opinions?

sounds like me a couple years ago, i still gamble but i am back up overall after a long long time and being down ALOT,

i stopped for a while though, u need to get rid of your internet gambling sites, just doesnt seem like real money for alot of people because you cant hold the actual chips.

I hear ya

the thing is, I never lose more than what I make during that period with my work... so I have never "lost" in that sense...

this week, I lost 2000$ (casino+poker) and won 1500$ (casino), so its really not that bad... but still, I feel very sour about the whole thing

Well if you have fun no worries. But if you continue to feel bad about it I would stop. Spend the money you would have spent at casino on some stuff you like :)

I also lie to my friends sometimes about how much I lose... which is a bad thing in itself, but then again, money is relative: 1000$ to them is NOT the same as 1000$ to me...

I'm really glad you brought it up yourself, bdjuf -- that takes a lot of courage in my book. And the truth is I've been really worried about you since the MVC Poker Night in Montreal. I wanted to say or do something -- but just didn't know how. Get help, brother -- that's all you have to focus on -- and you'll get through it. God bless...

Well it is what it is. I know how fun it can be to gamble. When I do go I do not mind losing it all. I would take a step back if you are going so often and not being honest with your friends. You can always play online for free. Yet I doubt that would help :upsidedow

LauraLee 05-17-2005 06:38 AM

Put the money part aside. All you need to remember is what you already said:
"but at the end of the day, win or lose, I always regret going to the casino or gambling online"

Those words speak volumes, listen to them.

sexyclicks 05-17-2005 06:40 AM

you need to start a drug habit, thats money well spent!

Fake Nick 05-17-2005 06:41 AM

I hear ya! I have the same problem with fine hookers :(

Nicky 05-17-2005 06:44 AM

try and not go to the casino more than 1 time a week and dont bring any more money than $1k, also forget everything about playing online BJ or roulette......

Ross 05-17-2005 07:22 AM

I got heavily involved with the Casino over here when I first became a member. I'd go out clubbing with my friends, then we'd take "the walk of shame" as we called it. Thats the walk between the night club and the Casino.

We just did it for fun, and to be honest I was usually winning a lot of money, but then when I had it all I would think I couldn't be beaten, and usually walked out a few hundred dollars down. Granted I earn enough money to loose but still, its basically like sitting throwing money away.

Now I know my limits, I go in with $100, when its done its done. Or if I turn it into a few hundred then I'll walk away. I haven't been to the Casino for a while tho.

Here's what to do:

Go to the casino, without your friends and without money.
-ask for security
-tell them you have a problem and want to be banned from entering the casino and gambling
-get them to scan your face into their computer system, aka facial recognization.
-thank them nicely from saving you from going broke and needing an intervention.
-then see if you can set it up that when they see you roll up with your friends that the security guy comes over and says. sorry sir, but since you have been winning too much, we are not allowed to let you on in the casino.

Now, the cool part...

you can tell your friends you went to the casino the other night and won a shit load of cash and you are feeling lucky.

imagine the shock on your friends faces when they escort you out!
-you may not be able to gamble and you may not have any fun that night, but you'll get over it and move on to something better.

also, just play the free games on the internet, if you can't do that then uninstall that software FAST!
