The right of an adult to protect themselves against a minor?

Today when I was on the way back to my house from the train station four boys I would estimate to be about 12 or 13 started giving me a hard time and circling around me. Most verbal abuse but getting really close to being in my face. I ended up taking a sort of detour path to my house as I didn't really want them to see which door I lived at . I told them in as polite as terms as I could to fuck off and eventually they went away.

Now, in my head a bit at the time was 'what do I do if they start really making me worry about my safety here?' I mean, I am pretty sure if I even pushed them away I would be up on some sort of charges or at the very least had some irate parent tracking me down. I know it is all academic because I ended up being find but it did make me wonder what right I would have had to protect myself against minors.

Does make me reconsider the offer one of my friends made to rent out my spare room ...would have been more confident to come directly to the house if I didn't live alone.

situational self defence is irrelevant of age. If your lifeis in danger you have the right to defend yourself. They are not your responsibility. The kids are actually thier parents responsibility.

if you challange them that's different, but if your are placed in a situation of physical harm you have the right to defend yourself in most 1st word countries. anything beyound that would be questionable - ie hitting someone once they are down or incompasitated.

but it's a good question to ask a lawyer in your area- (not a cop)

tell them you are a tranny and you want to show them something

Check the local laws concerning what happened, and ask an attorney. But if you can not afford one, ask a cop, but ask one in the area where the event occoured. The cop may already know about the kids, and be looking for someone to come foreward.

The many joys of chavs. A giant zit on the ass of this country. Next time you see the old bill walking down the street ask them, they'll probably have some beneficial input.

In this country you're only able to restrain minors, this means pushing and perhaps holding. Anything more would be assault but with all the CCTV around London you should be fine.

If anything ever goes to court then the judge can interpret the law as they feel the situation dictates, there is no set rules.

Whereabouts are you anyways?

well if it was a number of them and one of you .I cant see you getting into trouble

Crap situation isn't it? I suppose I look big enough and ugly enough that we seem to get left alone but then we also keep ourselves to ourselves. I know full well that if we started stirring shit with certain neighbours, their kids would be the ones retaliating and there's FA you can do. 'Eventually' an ASBO and even possible eviction tends to stop them but what a shitty process to go through and it's not quick. Problem is if you hit them the parents are likely to come after you with bats and/or you'll be banged up.

At the end of the day though it's nearly always the scumbag parents to blame :(
