When I buy domains, I usually pay less than they are worth... but when I sell some, then I sell them for less than they are worth too :(

And no, I am not an idiot, when I buy a domain for $2.5k, and it's market price is about $10k, then i won't sell it for less than $30k or so...

But sometimes I register some name for $8, then I sell it for $80 few months later and soon after that I realise t was worth like $300 :(

There are people like Dombuyer here who don't mind posting 30k-100k domain names.

Uhm, real players keep quiet. Trust me on that. There are many on this board and none boast about their domains.

DarkJedi, you say you work in SEO, so why don't you show us your network here? Some poeple just like things private. And I don't thinh paying $2.5k for a domain is anything to bragg about... and even if you think it is, then it was not posted with that intention for sure

Because seo business and domain name business are 2 different things. You can't copy a 'type in' domain sucess. But it's easy to copy innovative seo concepts.

I think you know who most of the big players are. Those are the people I was referring too :winkwink:

They very very rarely, if ever talk about their domains.

I see no point in stating who I believe is and is not a big player.

DomBuyer is just another investor. He brags about $1mil offer on a $8mil domain to boost his GFY appeal. Sad, but it's obvious he has to "prove" himself to people who have no idea what real domain investing is all about.

I assure you, the real players in the game stay quiet. The wannabes are always trying to perfect their "forum image" and impress other wannabes.

BTW, polish_aristocrat modestly mentioned that he didnt consider himself a player. To me, owning a $10k domain name is an indication of sucess. Hence the interest.

success is relative, but it is not as simple as that.

Let's not talk about me for a while but about someone who just happens to have a "$10k" domain. Based on common domain valuation prices, a $10k domain will make him a few hundred $$$ per month from the type in traffic. So let's say you own a $10k domain ...so what... you still make almost nothing ( unles you brand it in some way, open a paysite etc... but even with paysite, you can have a good domain, but still no affiliates etc )

So then who would be more succesfull... a guy who happens to have a domain that makes him $400 per month with no work, and he know that he can sell it always for about $10k.... or a stupid gallery submiter who makes just 2 sales per day, but that is still 4 times more than the first guy...
IMO none of them can be considered succesfull in this biz.

So to say it clearly, since we are suddenly discussing this subject.., you'd need lots of '$10k domains' to be really sucssefull... assuming you'd get your income ONLY from domains....

So DarkJedi, as you can se at least I have some knowldge about the domains.. so that makes me more than a GFY sigwhore you probably thought I am... :winkwink: I can assure you I own some good names, but i simpyl don't want to post them here for privacy reasons, I dont want to sell any anyway.
