What to do with ebay seller who won't answer emails...

This drives me nuts. I sent him money and he can't even answer a simple "hey when was this shipped" question. Tried two methods of contacting him to no avail. Think this warants a negative feedback or at least neutral feedback once item is recieved? he's a power seller, so it doesn't surprise me.

Oh well auction fraud is the biggest fraud online.

Tempest 05-13-2005 04:51 PM

Did you send "cash"? I was ripped off once that way.. Never again, now it's paypal or nothing.

use paypal and make sure you use an email account that does not filter for spam server side you would be suprised how many people email me 10 times i reply 10 times and they dont get 1 email.

tranza 05-13-2005 04:53 PM

WHEN you receive the item give him a bad feedback...

blueb8llz 05-13-2005 05:16 PM

they shouldnt be selling in the first place

Jace 05-13-2005 05:18 PM

this happened to me, so I filed with safeharbor and paypal...paypal gave him 1 week to return the money or give me a tracking # or they would refund my money
the dude answered like 30 minutes after I filed my claims

i don't put up with shit on ebay, and I pay EVERYTHING with paypal, cause they protect me if I don't recieve an item

iwantchixx 05-13-2005 05:29 PM

Yeah I used paypal. Thing that may be the issue is that he uses a hotmail account for his email. Not very professional of him if he's running a power seller store.

yeah, safe harbor is a joke...the worst part about it, is that both parties have to agree on terms, and you have to pay for a mediator for terms to be met...LOL...

Babagirls 05-13-2005 05:41 PM

i almost got scammed on ebay, and i payed with paypal.
so i sent an nasty email to the guy saying that i would sue him and blah blah, threw in some legal mumbo-jumbo, the next day, i got my payment (plus 1 cent lol) in my paypal account.

i am pretty sure paypal has instant $1000 protection now...so, just file a fraud complaint right now and see what happens...it can't hurt, and you can cancel it at any time

Now THAT's how you handle it :)

I had a problem with a guy who's a power seller and he went ballistic because he didn't take the time to understand he'd sent me two wrong items after I waited two weeks for something. I told him to chill out, he did, we talked on the phone and found out we both are big fans of the same classic tv show, we don't live that far from each other and he offered to help train a depressed mega market base on how to use Ebay!

So now I have a new friend and a powerful potential buying and selling and marketing team that can't be beat! Not only that but alot of retirees and military and cops I know who have awesome goods can now have a one on one chat with a top Ebay seller!

1) Don't lose your temper. Get the full story straight and remember there are alot of goof ups like emails, spam filters, ISPs blocking ( it happened with a big GFY player and me recently ), illness, etc.

2) When you buy use Pay Pal or some other verifiable trade purchasing service. Ask a question about the item BEFORE you buy or bid. If the seller can't answer your email BEFORE the sale it's a good bet he ain't gonna do it after you put your money down.

3) Look for the best deal. That means the seller or buyer. I was surprised at meeting people on Ebay who I bought from! They LOVE me cause I pay then and there. No bullshit unless there's a problem with distance or like in Britain their monetary system.

Ebay's potential is astounding. It's like having a store with 35 million window shoppers 24/7. Ebay alone is probably the Post Office's biggest reason to exist nowadays.

I knew Ebay would pan out but it had to grow and get the knots out first. It's probably the biggest seller online outside of porn and then some!

robfantasy 05-13-2005 05:43 PM

how long has it been? maybe ur emails are being filtered

iwantchixx 05-13-2005 07:55 PM

It's only been two weeks. But I always get shipment confirmations or at least thank you notes from sellers. This is very odd. Sound slike he is in way over his head with this judging by some of the negative feedback I found.

wedouglas 05-13-2005 08:00 PM

me an bmk were ripped off by a power seller. he ended up being an indonesian exchange student and when his time was up and he graduated from OSU he put up tons of auctions and lefts with some several hundered thousand dollars. was wanted by FBI at the time. got several letters from the FBI about the situation. no idea what happened

if I don't recieve my item within 10 days without communication, i file claims..period...you have a lot of patience to wait 14 days..that is ludacris...shit, if I don't get my ebay item within 5 days I start worrying...the mail is FAST these days, i can ship shit to england in 7 days...so there is no reason other than ignorant/lazy/scamming sellers that you don't have your item

yeah, i can see that happening

seriously, if I was ever wanting to disappear and make a few hundred thousand dollars before doing it, i would put up TONS of high priced auctions on ebay in one night and make it look totally professional....then take off with the money...LOL

iwantchixx 05-13-2005 08:13 PM

If I don't get a response by him by tomorrow I will go through the resolution process. It looks like I am not the only one having difficulties getting in touch with this guy. Maybe a little jolt by contacting ebay suport will get him more likely to contact me back.

Cripes, it's just a $70 order for fog lights but the fact remains, I want some form of communication from people I purchase products from. There's another seller thatI purchased a movie from around teh same time that isn't giving me any clue of shipping or anything either and he's located in canada, so the item should have arrived long ago. I've never had problems like this before. It seems to be that the bigger the seller the more problematic they are. Other big stores I bought from on ebay at least communicated but were a pain in the ass to deal with. Smaller guys are HAPPY to contact me the second they ship the items and give me all information I need.

The exception to that are the Hong Kong based sellers. Damn, these guy know how to fucking do business. Prompt, answer your qwuestions within 30 minutes and are chock full of information. Especially those audio geeks in Hong Kong selling tube PCB kits and high end hi-fi tube audio equipment. Power sellers should take notes from those guys.

One thing that is sitting in the back of my mind is Customs. Since the fog lights are form the US and I am on Canadian soil there is always a chance of things getting held up in cutoms. It's happened before but at least the seller of the previous time was great to communicate with. The DVD I ordered from the canadian store has no excuse, however, it's possible he's just drop shipping and not saying so in the auction.

PurrrsianPussyKat 05-13-2005 08:16 PM

I bought something recently for my son and the guy never answered any emails.
Took about a week to get my item after I paid, So I just left him no feedback.
Fighting over negative feedback is so not worth my time. They start sending you square trade notices and all that shit, so whatever. As long as the item comes, just don't buy from him again. ;)

yeah, if it is out of country I don't sweat it for at least 20 days....shit, we had a auction from thailand take almost a month because of customs and shit...that sucked..but the seller was so nice and shit, it worked out

yeah, the negative feedback thing will bite YOU in the ass...cause you know they just sit and wait for you to leave negative, then they do the same, even if you were good about it all

i just don't leave any feedback

Jace 05-13-2005 08:18 PM

i will say this though, there are a LOT of ebay haters...i am a 100% ebay power buyer/seller...i am on there every night, i even sometimes buy shit on ebay and resell it for twice the price

iwantchixx 05-13-2005 08:26 PM

That's something I'd love to get into is selling on ebay. I have a niche that I can nail pretty good that isn't overdone yet. Tube amp mods. I know one guy just selling 68uF capacitors labeled as distortion pills and he sells quite a bit of them on ebay. There is a market for this kind of shit. I'd even go as far as to sell preassembled PCB's to replace parts of the circuit in popular amps, and put together DIY tube kits or evens ell complete instructions on how to build or modify common amplifiers into great guitar amplifiers. Sell the instructions at $20 a pop with complete bill of materials, sources, schematics and diagrams.

Right now I am converting a Bogen CHB20 into an 18watt marshall. Finding bogens are as easy as pie on ebay, and the materials needed for the conversions would only be about $50 total minus the tubes. I should totally sell that... hrm. Wonder what the listing fees ar like.. time to go research.
