Who here has soul?

Ever since my Hall and Oates concert the other night I have been revisiting my love of soul - particuarly Philly Soul. I kind of forgot how much I love this music.

At the moment I am listening to : Five Stairsteps and Ooh Child (Things are going to get easier)

Loading the following into my playlist but need more:

O'Jay's - so many good songs but Lovetrain, She Used to Be My Girl, I love Music get me the most

Billy Paul - Me and Mrs Jones takes my breath away

Hall and Oates - laugh if you will but best blue eyed philly soul ever

Anyone else love Philly soul?

Morning Sarah! Having been born and raised in Philly, that sound is by far my all time favorite music. You may wanna look for "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" by McFadden & Whitehead. That's a good tune to get ya moving early in the morning. :)

How was the H&O concert, btw? I've seen them 4 times over the years and have never been disappointed. :thumbsup

it was fantastic, this was my second time and it was even better than the first. Apparently their new album is covers of Philly Soul songs and the stuff sounded great. I especially liked their cover of 'She Used To Be My Girl'.

They are from my home town (lansdale area of PA) and my dad went to high school with Oates (North Penn) so I have always followed them. I would LOVE to see them in Philly.

Myself being a Philly native and living in the burbs of Philly...you cant help but have soul :)

Thrown in Disco Inferno from the tramps... Philly's finest disco, dance and R&B powerhouse.......... I got satisfaction coming in a chain reaction...........

Hmm, that new album sounds interesting. Think I might have to go out and buy it today. :)

I have a fond memory of the very first time I went to see them in concert...
It was back in the late '70's (their Abandoned Luncheonette tour), and the show was at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby. It was a sold out show, and the line to get into the show was almost around the block (while they were checking our tickets & allowing us to go in). I remember it was POURING rain, and there were about 25-30 people there that had planned to buy their tickets at the door - but, they didn't know that it had already been 'sold out'.

Daryl and John were in their tour bus and as they got off to go into the building, Daryl over heard one of the employees telling some guy "Sorry, show's sold out. We can't let you in."

Daryl then walked over in the pouring rain and proceeded to talk with the employee about letting the guy & other ticketless peeps into the show. The employee said "We really can't. We'll be over the maximum capacity limit set by the U.D. Fire Marshall."

Daryl said "Oh, I see. Well, tell ya what...If the Fire Marshall gets wind of this, you let us deal with him. But, these people are standing out here in the pouring rain supporting us and wanting to see our show. So, either ALL of our fans are allowed in to see the show OR we don't go on and you refund everyone that does have a ticket - and cancel the show."

About 5 minutes later after alot of scrambling between employees...everyone was let in. I thought that was pretty cool of Daryl. :thumbsup

excellent of him!

Apparently he lives over here in London now...must be something about the Philly/London connection ;)

Lol. We have similar musical tastes I think, Sarah.

'Me and Mrs Jones' brings back some good memories of one of my ex-girlfriends. The amount of times we made love with that in the background. :)

I like earthy raw soul. The guy that does it best for me is Otis.

Otis Redding - Try a little tenderness
Otis Redding - These arms of mine
Otis Redding - Glory of Love

my maiden name is Jones...used to wish is was Miss Jones

Daryl did a version the other night that was so powerful it nearly was like having group sex with the audience.
