German Guy Cools PC in Oil [LINK]

Apparently this guy was so sick of the noise his PC made he put it in an aquarium with oil (lettuce oil in Dutch). Makes the PC completely silent and it has been running for an entire year now without a problem.

What people don't think of...

It's far less crazy than dumping it in water. Why on earth would anyone dump a PC in water unless they were so pissed off they wanted to blow it up?

Shit that is amazing. He should patent the idea, and make something from it.

OG LennyT 05-11-2005 02:48 PM

Looks like all he used was vegetable oil. Damn, I wish my computers would quiet down now... hmmmm

And this is an amazing thing because? Large dataservers have been using a concept similar to this for a long time. I forgot what it is but it looks like water and feels like water but its like $100 for a gallon or some crazy price like that. And you can just dump the computer into it without any problems. Using oil seems pretty nasty imo. I would think it would be pretty hard to get that shit off all the components when you pull it out lol.

Goose 05-11-2005 03:42 PM

lol that's amazing. I wonder if that really works!

sumphatpimp 05-11-2005 03:47 PM

I use dehydrated water to cool my pc.
works great.

Water on itself (H2O) doesn't do anything with electricity. If the water is clear it will be no problem.
