America makes me sick sometimes...

It makes me sick how everyone "idolizes" celebrities so much. the shit is so stupid...everywhere i look i see a television show or a magazine devoted to following around actors, musicians, and even athletes. what are some of your thoughts on this?

*In 100% total agreement*

They're overpaid pieces of shit. It's doctors, nurses, teachers, soldiers, et al that should be making $1 million/year.

I think its ok for kids to like celebrities and athletes. etc.

It gives them somethign to aspire to be. Those professions take a lot of work. The problem is that most of those people are not people that you would want your kids looking up to.

I think its really sad when adults idolize people. When I was a kid, I had posters of NFL players on my wall. Now I know people in the NFL and I wouldn't go out of my way to speak to most of them.

Personally I couldn't give a shit if someone is famous or not.. I don't see what the big hype is about meeting famous people.

Shit I'm big time into racing and one day I was waiting for a room situation to get figured out in West Palm. I was sitting next to Paul Tracey on a couch in the lobby and we were talking about DJing. I never even mentioned racing until he asked if I knew who he was, lol I guess he was expecting me to ask for his autograph or something.

It's called the "free market", you pinko commies. The same free market that allows you to make good money peddling smut.

FunForOne 05-11-2005 12:18 PM

At least the television show "american idol" is honest and tells you that they are manufacturing celebrity.

Most of time they try to hide the fact that people have no talent.
Example: Brittney spears and queen latifia

I wonder what Ryan Seacrest would have to say about this thread.

Yes, way too much celebrity worship

reynold 05-11-2005 06:36 PM

that's because those are the ones that make a good story, for them, that is.

That's what they tell you, anyway. Just like how everyone in the world is jealous of American's over-consumption.

The rest of the world idolizes celebrities from many countries, not just american celebrities. IMO, people loving celebrities has much more to do with human psychology than any national culture. America is just an extreme example of celebrity worship.

"Celebrity worship makes me sick..."
