Car Audio Guys
OK, I am looking at getting this really nice 4x4 Dodge Ram pickup truck that the blue book is only like $300 less than what I am paying for it. But the truck has a custom paint job, rims and sound system.
Knowing nothing about sound systems, i figured I would ask (and I dont have model #'s). It has 2 kenwood amps (350 and 250 watt), and 2 JBL subwoofers, and a pioneer single cd player deck that is 4x50 watt and you can control the sub's bass and everything right from the deck itself. Now with this little of information, any idea what that sound system might we worth? It has two door mid range speakers too, but I didn't pop the door panel off to see them, and it sounds pretty good. Any info on the price would be great, the guy says its about $1800 worth of a stereo system. Thanks, Andy |
I doubt they are using the 4x50 from the deck. I bet 1 amp is for subs, and the other is for mids & tweets. do you have the model numbers of the amps ?
|
the subs like 10"s?
|
Rough estimate would be $200-$300 unless its some high end stuff
|
if you can hear it from 3 blocks away it may be worth $1800....

Id say its worth more then that... just the install is probably worth that |

1 amp is for back speaker and subs and the other speaker is for front speakers and tweets. 2 subs + a cd probebly around $1000 worth.... 350 watts amp? never heared of this stuff.... i got 1 boss amp 1000 watts....and it's not SO powerful. :2 cents: |
No model numbers, just names, it sounds good and I would say the subs are 10" or maybe 12" subs, they fit behind the seat of a full size, regular cab pickup seat.
Like I said the amps were Kenwood, and it had the huge fuses on it and shit, and from the deck. It sounded good, but $1800 sounded fishy to me, if its worth at least $400-$500 I dont have a problem paying the extra $300 considering the paint job is pristine and is only 2 years old, has new tires/rims on it as well, and kelly blue book rated the same truck at $300 less with the stock components. Just making sure I am getting an ok deal. Its a 1992 Dodge Power Ram 150 v8, just needed a second car after picking up our new honda odyssey last year and figured might as well get a descent looking truck for tooling around town, doing a little mudding with for the hell of it and maybe use it to plow the driveway :), paint, tires, rims, stereo is just a bonus. Truck is super clean too, no leaks, no rust, it was stored for 5 years before this guy got it 6 mos ago. |
depends:
how long he's had that equipment, dual/single voice coil subs, how old the models are, check with meter if everything is working, what kind of box the subs are in, sealed/bandpass/etc... , new/old head unit.... based on what you have told us: $300-$500 :thumbsup hint: never by a car based on extras.. check online blue book for trade in value and try to get it as close as you can to that :winkwink: |
I'd pay no more than $500 for it.

Trust me I know this, the truck is clean as hell. Some places say $4100 for the truck, others $3700. No way you are going to buy a vehicle for trade-in value though, it just doesn't happen most of the time. KBB however has a section that lists what the price would be for the truck if you were to buy it from the person directly. They listed $3700, many others were $4100 so I think I am right on track with the price of it. |

aftermarket stuff is worth 25% of item cost, installs are a throwaway.. . even to another enthusiast the aftmkt is 50% at best unless they are a dumb kid.. .
|
I'd say $1100 new was what was paid. Probably worth much less now, as car audio depreciates as fast as the new technology comes out.
|
you need more then that.
|
I'd say $1800 is fair, and maybe a bit low. I have a GMC 1500 with a custom stereo in it.
I'm running a Kenwood Deck, JL 300/4 amp, 10 inch JL W-6 Sub in custom box, 2 6 1/2 Focal speakers/tweeters, and Dynamat in the doors. The system and installation was $2,100. I found some places that were cheaper, but I knew Car Toys would do it right. I'd say $1,800 is pretty good. Ask him if he has a receipt. I know I saved my for warranty purposes, so who knows he might still have it. Good luck with the truck! Be sure to post some pics if you buy it |
