I've had it with my DSL company, how's Bellsouth?
I'm thinking of switching to Bell South, anyone have any good/bad experiences with them?
|
I have DSL Extreme ADSL service and I am happy with it. It is rated at 3.0 Mb d/l and 384 Kb u/l speed as I recall. The actual speed averages pretty close (maybe 60%-75%) to the max rated for me in Hollywood.

Check with your cable company and see what they offer. More than likely it will be faster than bellsouth. And when you do that switch to Vonage for your phone company and save some money! :)

Snappy DSL was good when I was in sofal. I dont know about now. The one main draw back with Cable, is that you share the connection. So if you live in an area where a lot of people live and have it, it will slow way the hell down at times. Ask anyone that live near a university that has it.
Depending on the are where you live, look into a radio signal. That is what I have and we average over 3mb up and down. |
I've had Bellsouth DSL for 4+ years, it fucks up maybe once a year, very solid.
|
I had BellSouth DSL when I lived in WPB. My neighbor had cable access. His was always faster. Find a neighbor with cable internet and compare it to a neighbor with BellSouth DSL. See who is faster. I'll think you will find that cable is.

Bellsouth works great. Also try Adelphia Cable.

bellsouth for 2 years.
very happy. |
i had bellsouth and earthlink, both at different times...both sucked ASS...top speed i would get was maybe 250kb/sec and it was always down and it took them 8 months to finally admit it was something in their line, not mine...they did credit me for the whole time though, i do give them that
i have comcast now, and will never go back to those 2 little wires....not only are they limited in the amount of data that can be sent back and forth, but there is SO much room for error....while you will constantly see cable speeds going up and up and up (my downloads are now at 600kb/sec), the dsl lines are very limited and eventually will cap out at their speeds...cable internet is endless with how far and fast they can go |
oh yeah, my uploads just also got upgraded to 50kb/sec....shit, at this rate, in a year, i will surpass T1 speeds by a long shot...i swear i think comcast upgrades speeds once a month now

DSL is DSL is DSL . . . . you get it from the same source, no matter who you are paying.
|
get cable if you can.

id cry if i had to go back to dsl going from 4Mbps to .375Mbps(384Kbps) im only paying $10 more per month for cable :thumbsup |
I have Bellsouth and it's a lot faster than my sister's cable next door. Then again, I am just a couple blocks from the main Bellsouth station in this area. My brother had Bellsouth but was just enough out of range from the closest station that they wouldn't sell him the DSL Extreme and he recently switched to cable which is faster for him than my sister's cable (same cable company but his neighborhood has newer infrastructure).
There are too many factors. As mentioned earlier best thing is if you can ask neighbors with each service, perhaps talking them into going to an online speed test. |
Cable goes down too often here. Dial up is faster sometimes! No shit!
|
I was with Bellsouth for 6 years with little or no problems. I just switched to my cable company because they offer a faster service, but bellsouth was great...
|
Depends on what bandwidth you can get. How close are you to a central office.
Given the biz you're in a biz account with dedicated IPs makes sense. Then DSL has it all over cable with rare exception. Roscoe should help with the decision. You could setup a VPN etc.... |
Just get both, never down :-)
Cable is wierd, at my old place the cable net sucked... always down or slow. Since I've had it at my new place, even the cable tech could not believe the speeds we were getting. I think the quality depends on how many people in your area have it... we went down one day and there was no one else in the area the cable company could test. |

Yeah right my cable company sucks ass and I'm happy as hell BellSouth DSL is finally available where I live now. I've had BellSouth DSL before and never had a problem. Cable goes down several times a month and is never fixed until the NEXT day. |
I use Comcast at home and it's good stuff.... always heard things about BellSouth. Good luck!
|
I have both bellsouth DSL and brighthouse/time warner cable. Cable is faster but DSL is ten times more stable. I can ftp for days with DSL and no interuption. Cable the most I can go without having to restart is maybe 2 hours. Cable seems to have lots of upstream glitches. Not to mention cables getting cut and all the other maintenance problems cable is prone to.

Bellsouth is like the mafia; if you ever sign up with them, you can never leave. Bellsouth is such a ripoff. I have a friend who worked for them, and he spent hours after work each day calling his customers and apologizing for the shit Bellsouth pulled.
