I saw that too, he was really sweating at the end.

John Stewart did a funny segment on it on the Daily Show last night.

HpicAnn 05-05-2005 02:19 PM

It says Polls: Blair wins

Dirty F 05-05-2005 02:19 PM

Well, if the opposition was more interesting for the majority of the voters Blair would be gone now but hes lucky the English dont want the conservatives back. Keep in mind 9 out of 10 people still think what he did regarding the war in Iraq was very wrong.

Sarah_Jayne 05-05-2005 02:19 PM

again: It isn't just about Blair..poli sci people

blazin 05-05-2005 02:19 PM

He hasn't won yet, but it is predicted that he will win.

Awwwww. I miss the good ol' days. The elections in the UK don't matter anyways. The British are as usefull to the world as Canadians are now. Just a bunch of US lapdogs.

because the polls just closed at 10pm (20 minutes ago) and they only just started counting votes. Tony Blair doesn't win jack shit beyond his own seat. The Labour party wins a majority..which they will BUT what the story is about it by how many seats they won the majority. When Labour came in two elections ago they had such a huge majority that my husband ( a life time old Labour supporter) mumbled 'elected dictatorship' under his breath. If now it really is down to the 60 seats that the first exit polls are suggesting that is a big story. That means that I bet Blair doesn't make it through to the next election as leader of the Labour party because his party will start to become rather restless about him.

So, there is a bigger picture here.

my pleasure...I had my first UK election to observe in '97...it feels such a long time ago.

I miss my husband tonight because he would be sitting here nervously following every result. *sigh*

pretty sure lots of anti-Blair would be wishing the exit polls are wrong (http://www.bbc.co.uk/)

Tipsy 05-05-2005 03:30 PM

Blair will win simply because as in the US the opposition is a waste of space. Had the Tories got their act together we'd have a new government. As it is the tories can't even govern their own party. A shame as the guy is an evil puppet and real does need to go.

Libdems will make good ground but still not high profile enough to do more than steal a few marginal seats.

Libdem's policies make more sense than most but they were never going to win unfortunately. Failing that I don't care as I dislike the Tories (growing up under Thatcher tends to put you off them) and as I say think Blair is an evil puppet.

Best case scenario given possible outcomes is that Blair gets such a huge bloody nose he stands down in the near future and Labour get a new (maybe better?) leader.

Sarah_Jayne 05-05-2005 06:11 PM

NOW tony blair has won - his seat declared. The whole election however, is not declared.

Lee 05-06-2005 01:31 AM

GAAH 4 more years of that cnut John Colshaw doing his wanky Tony Blair impersonations :321GFY

theFeTiShLaDy 05-06-2005 03:15 AM

well, he won because the British people voted for him and they like him as a leader.

grrrrr..I think i need to be a poli sci teacher if the bottom ever falls out of porn. We voted for our own members of parliment not Blair unless we live in his area. The party also took (to borrow a famous soccer phrase) a hell of a beating - especially in the London area.

Tipsy 05-06-2005 08:16 AM

Worth remembering too that almost 2/3rds of the public who did vote voted for a different party.

http://www.pbs.org

We still have a couple months left before they completely dumb down PBS.

If you have a satellite you should see about getting BBC World or CBC Newsworld.

Sarah_Jayne 05-06-2005 10:41 AM

David Trimble lost his seat..the local elections have been interesting this time
