Guitarists, can you please listen to this song

And tell which effect is used for the guitar (solo) starting at 1:50.
Ive heard it before used by the Smashing Pumpkins and i think its also the same effect used for Mojo Pin by Jeff Buckley.

Download

YARGH! Sounds like a backwards volume pedal. I should mention I am a Drummer not a guitar player. :)

sounds like a combination of a delay and a flanger.

:2 cents:

it sounds like a chorus with a delay sounds like its been recorded backwards but you can kind of simulate that effect with a volume pedal or the volume on the guitar because of the delay and make it swell (not swell as in nice - swell like an ocean wave)

Well, you could create it when playing the recording back but the thing is ive seen the Pumpkins use it in a live concert. Its an effect that does this for sure.

PSGuru 05-04-2005 11:29 AM

Is that a stand alone effect or does it come with those multi effect things?

Not sure with guitar pedals, but alot of pc reverb effects give options for it. Basicaly it's a slow attack that builds up after the sound is played, producing the reverse effect.

Dirty F 05-04-2005 11:39 AM

Edit...

Ok thanks

Hey PSguru, which software has that effect? You said you only know it from the computer?

Toonlogos 05-04-2005 12:57 PM

that's a neat effect. i've never heard of a reverse gate, i'm gonna have to check that out.

-edit- orignally i was gonna say, wah pedal, with compression sustainer and chorus.

There are quite a few reverb and delay effects that will do it, can't recall the names, but since it's on the computer you can just reverse the sample and achieve the same effect.

TheGoldenChild 05-04-2005 01:17 PM

Yes that is reverse gate-
It's more a studio effect not a guitar processor.

Dirty F 05-04-2005 01:34 PM

When i plug in my guitar in to the soundcard i only get sound on 1 speaker...how can i get it stereo?

Your guitar output is Mono.

Nylz 05-04-2005 01:47 PM

wow, what song is that?

TheGoldenChild 05-04-2005 01:50 PM

reverse gate is used a lot on Janet Jackson's " What have you done for me lately" song- if you hear the sound of her snare

A lot of R&B producers use the effect on their drums-

I don't think he's using chorus cause it's a pretty clean sound. I think hejust played with the levels. But I agree with everything else.
