i dont speak hebrew - but as far as i understand (am a historian in my free time) some theories are that the "beast" was the emperor nero ...

in hebrew letters have a numerical value, and depending on how you spell his name (nero caeser) in hebrew, the numerical value will equal 616 or 666.

number of the beast by maiden still kicks ass - i wouldnt care if it was 671
