One of my external USB hard drives died - What to do with it?
It seems it totally died tonight
It's a Freecom 250 gigs Any advice on how to extract all that 's stored inside? Other than re downloading everything that's in it ... :helpme |
Really depends how and why its died.
Best thing way to run external drives is to run two side by side and then when you have a problem or failure you still have one which is ok. Externals are now so very big and very cheap its the best way. |
Does the bios still detect it?
|
I would bring it to a comp shop and have them extract the data otherwise its what the previous guy said, it depends how it died.

that sucks, our photographer had that last week wham 4 shoots gone... If its still detected id take it to a shop extract the data

Don't know how it died. I left it here uploading content from it via ftp. When I checked back today it was just resting here like it was unplugged. It had transferred half of the ftp queue and just plain died :( I ll take it to the store later today and see what they can do ... |
how did it die?
|
ill better get a backup

Imagine working at compusa, and one day some dude brings in his broken hard drive with 250 gigs of porn on it for you to extract
:upsidedow |
If the Bios still sees the drives, then it is more likely, it is more likely corrupted thann " fried ". Like it will say: " This drive is not formatted, Do you want to format it now" ....
If so, use Restorer2000 at http://www.restorer2000.com/ Works miracles .... :2 cents: If not detected, then bring it to a specialist. |

Its always good to backup the important data so that we can recover it incase if there is any problems... at this time i would only suggest u to consult a specialist :)
