NO LIMIT Poker... what are your strategies?

I was playing a bit the other day....

Maybe this is basic knowledge, but here are some things that I learned that seemed to work well for me:

- If the table is in a conservative mode where people usually open the preflop betting with the minimum bet (ie $5) then try to see the flop on every hand that you can for that $5... if someone bumps it up (still preflop) & you have junk, just fold it. The idea is to see the flop as often as possible for the minimum bet no matter how shitty your starting cards are.

In fact, it could be that the shittier your pre-flop cards are when making a hand this way - the better - because your opponents wouldn't expect you to be holding those cards.

Ie you have 8-2 off suit... and it flops 8 8 2....

I would think that catching people off guard when you have the winning hand that started off as really shitty cards would pay off for the $5 (or whatever the minimum opening bet is) ... especially if you check it when you make your hand.

Take advantage of as many free casino drinks as possible to make up for the money you're going to lose.

Nawh but seriously, no idea.

gamblin can ruin ya.

Craps is a much better game, on some bets you can actually get the REAL odds.

Go all in before the flop with every hand.

If you get lucky and double up, go to the cashier, take your money and go home.

If you lose, then you're done, go home.

This method saves lots of time.

Hmm... I would think the odds in craps (or any other casino game) Vs. poker are no comparison for halfway decent players. But yeah, for casino games, I think craps has is one that can be most in the players favor.... next to maybe Blackjack for math majors :winkwink:

I would never play that way, you should only play good hand, that way you will not loose money. Playing like you said is loose loose for you

Probably not a bad idea for some :1orglaugh

But that reminds me of the other thing I learned.....

If you're a newbie at nolimit (like me)... then buy in with the minimum buy in.

That way you can just go all-in when you like something and nobody can scare ya out of your hand by raising you. It's great if you can get a few people to call you like this.

If you lose, just rebuy for the minimum & try again.

This is really a pussy-ish newbie method though... and it's main drawback is that if you get a really good hand, the minimum buy in will probably be way under the maximum bet (or the chips in front of your opponents).

But what if the average pot size is like $100 and the average flop peek costs you $5. That means you could have up to 20 flop peeks for what you could expect to win if you get something good.

never bet more than you can afford to lose

but if you bet $5 all the time they know your bluffing, so they will wait for a good hand bet alot. They will play very tight (your opponents)

This is my secret... and yes i make money playing online...

play very very tight, but every once in a while bet with shitty cards, make sure that after you lose you show the table your hand. The table will then assume that you are a loose player and you will get much more action once you really do have the nuts...

it works trust me.

Yeah, learn how to play poker (say read Doyle Brunsons book) then play like this, and yeah, youll get nice action online.

Also, slow playing big hands is a sure way to get loot. earlier today I slow played 4 q's, and I took someone out in a tourney first hand.

No doubt.

It would only work a couple of times though no?

I guess in no limit that is perfectly good :)

Or.. online, where you can pop over to a new table where you're unknown without a wait.

Having a programming & networking background, I don't trust online poker for shit. Way to may ways (for players or the house) to easily cheat and reduce the odds of the honest player.

I have never won, so I won't offer advice. However holdem is the funnest game to loose all your money :D.
