Its still real early. This was the worst April slump in a long time. The problem is the last time they slumped this bad they finished in the basement.

Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina??

I heard this could be the case.

They are older guy by the majority.

Older guys don't play well when it's cold.

Bottom line is those that count them out right now are crazy. Its a very long season. The bats are swinging pretty good. Pitching needs to be ironed out.

There pitching is awful after the #1 starter in the rotation. After Johnson, Mussina is getting older, Pavano and Wright suck and Brown is horrendous. Their midle relief is one of the worst in baseball. When Sturtze is your set up guy you are in a world of hurt and Rivera is showing his age. The thing is they have no prospects in their farm system to trade for arms to improve the situation. Since they are in the luxury tax you have to add on 30% to any salary they take on this year. That means even for them no mid season hired arm like Clemens. He would cost too much for half a season. The only way they will make the playoffs is if their bats wake up and they score 6+ per game.
