I'm a content producer. I can't really stand reading words like those you just wrote. I'll make an exception this time and not go off on you about stealing copyrighted work.

But I'll now have no problem stealing your designs. Thanks for permission.

Donny 05-01-2005 11:59 AM

I wish there was some Led Zeppelin available on iTunes. Damn it.

badmunchkin 05-01-2005 12:09 PM

Well, i run a web software development company. The design stuff is more or less just to break even on my designers but they mostly do sites for our software releases... And here's my take...

We put measures in place to prevent people from stealing our work. We have invested a lot of time and money to do so. Our scripts only run on the server they are registered to run. The part that makes them do so is heavily encrypted. If someone finds a way around our system...I would not pursure them legally. Instead I would give them a free license in exchange for info as to how they did it so that i can use the info to prevent it from happening again.

Anyone who does not get creative and just sits and complains about people taking their shit without taking the time and resources to do something about....I'm sorry, but in my book they deserve it. (i'm not speaking about your content producing biz cuz i have no idea about what steps you've taken. I just know about the recording industry...And putting a out a lame PSA Announcement every other month is not create, innovative, or worth while)

Is it moral...no. I understand that. But I guess laziness is my pet peeve. And if I were the recording industry, I'd actually put a little effort into it...PSA's, suing 13 year old children, and posting fake songs on Kazaa is NOT effort

BlueWire 05-01-2005 12:14 PM

But while we're at it...i'm a big 80's fan :thumbsup

Van Halen - Jump
Starship - We Built This City on Rock and Roll
Men at Work - Down Under
Billy Ocean - Carribean Queen
General Public - Tenderness
Karate Kid - You're the best

I have a lot more but i figure they're already mentioned...

Ah, so if I stole you car because you didn't have a security system installed it would be YOUR fault for being lazy and you'd just ask me how I did it?

Why should artists have to put effort into stopping illegal practices?

Thats not a a good example...

If i left my car in a bad neighborhood with the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition...then yes...i would deserve it

The recording industry hasn't done as much as lock the doors or take the keys out of the ignition or drive the car out of th projects

BlueWire 05-01-2005 12:23 PM

And yes...

If i left every door and window in my house open while i went on vacation to hawaii...I would deserve it if my stereo system was gone...

If my kid left his bike out in the street and didnt put it away and some other kids took it for a joy ride and ditched it somewhere...It would speak about my neighborhood...but it would teach him a valuable lesson. I think the people that dont spread the blaim at all are the people who don't take enough responsibility for themselves. I would not buy my child a new bike the next day because it was stolen due to him not taking care of it.

I'm sorry man...but thats a valuable lesson in my book . And this country is full of people passing the blame. Its why we are so sue-crazy

If you wanna get technical i guess you could even say that I am passing the blame as to why i download free shit....But atleast I'm consistant with these views about our oown software...

A pirated copy of our software can costs us anywhere from 50 dollars to 5000 dollars. It DOES hurt....but i'd rather LEARN from the experience than be a cry baby about it

BlueWire 05-01-2005 01:41 PM

One last thing that crossed my mind while getting ready to take off...You can talk to me ALL you want about how stealing is stealing...

But there IS a difference between tangible property and digital info...

I would not look at someone stealing our software in the same light as someone taking my car if all the propper measures were in place.

But given the scenarios above of being lazy...i think i WOULD deserve getting that shit stolen for my laziness... As far as me asking how thety did it. Its two completely different things. I dont sell cars..I sell my software. If someone got past my security system at my car sales lot that i thought was inpentrable...Hey, i know its a new way of thinking...but it might be worth your while to not be an old school dip shit in exchange for finding out the flaw and fixing it so that every crook in town doesnt steal your cars

People who give up and whine...pass it off to their lawyers deserve what comes their way...Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice shame on me...

In the music industry's case....fool me 22.2 million times....shame on....Who? that's the question...I say shame on them for just passing their problems off instead of fixing things...
