Ardent BW good?
Do you like/is ARdent good Bandwidth?
Thnx Andre |
Yeah, they are good quality bandwidth. As compared to low quality Cogent...
|
The only problem I see with Ardent/Cais is that the company is bankrupt. They have been in Chapter 11 since October I think. I don't think their future is going to be too bright.

Bankrupt serious?
|
Well I heard that they sell they're hotel and dsl division and that they re profitable again....
Andre |
Yes indeed, it seems like they should become profitable again soon. The thing is that they lost lots of customers recently, but still their BW is of decent quality. They have some good peerings...

Yes, they are bankrupt: http://ardentcomm.com/news/news_01-10-11.htm
They definitely are not profitable as that would be quite a good move. From chapter 11 to profitability ... wow that would be an evolution http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/smile.gif In the second quarter, Ardent did make $6 million profit, but that was due to a sale of one of their subsidiaries to Cisco. Without that sale they would have lost over $28.8 million in that quarter with revenues of $11 million. Their major problem at the moment isn't the debt load but their cash balance which seems to be very meager. The last loan they got in July and with their cash-burn rate of about $30 million per quarter they shouldn't have too much left right now. Filing for chapter 11 isn't so bad if you want to restructure your business and have some cash on hand to get you through the entire process but filing for chapter 11 with hardly any cash on hand is quite sure to lead to chapter 7 (actual bankruptcy) if they aren't bought out. Nobody is going to fund a company that's been burning $30 million and more per quarter for several years. The problem is that cash is rare these days so why should any big player with lots of reserves choose cais/ardent and not one of the other stranded ISPs, if they want to go shopping. What makes Ardent different from the rest? I dare say nothing. They've got a good network, granted, but so do the big carriers. They don't need yet another backbone, especially because they're actually trying to get rid of some of their own overcapacity. In my opinion they need to be very lucky to get out of chapter 11 alive. Cais has got a good business with good bandwidth and good quality but I'm afraid to say they won't be likely to make it. I'm not intending to bash CAIS or any host using them but this is the situation as it appears to me. ------------------ Current Special: 300GB Dedicated Server @ $325 monthly. I think they will make it, Chapter 11 will help with that http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/smile.gif
