How do u tell if your host is crap or not?
Speed wise? If it loads fine on my connection, obviously doesnt mean much. Support is fine etc. What steps can I take to let me know what the connectivity is like with my host, how fast they are? Besides asking different people from diff locations to check how fast stuff loads. Any technical ways to check if my host is nice and quick?

I agree. You can also request speedtest files from your host or prospective host.

start/run/cmd
tracert thedomainname.com |
check where you send support requests to ... if the email addy is [email protected] your host sucks.
Otherwise in windows do: start > run > cmd tracert yourhostsdomainhere |

yes. determine where in the world your target market is. for porn sites this is usually north america and western europe. choose a host that has very fast delivery to those places and is competitively priced. http://www.tracert.com/cgi-bin/trace.pl now use the above utility to track # of hops and times using a domain hosted at the data center you are interested in, that covers the geographic region you are targeting. and if you can find better connectivity and a better price than webair post your results HERE. i bet you can't. |

tracerouting from your computer is nice and will say something but if you to traceroute.org you can find hosts to traceroute to your host from different parts of the world and on different isp's.
