How does choker control the traffic?

What kind of software does this mofo have to control all that traffic without having a constant headache?

MetaMan 04-28-2005 10:22 PM

Wow. Just because I'm impressed by the script doesnt mean you have to be a 1337 douche bag.

Thousands of dollars worth of custom programming.

adultguus 04-29-2005 02:09 AM

I once read an interview with him where he said that he had custom made scripts for literally everything.

Pretty much every "large" site/WM does.. it's how you gain an edge over the unwashed masses..

2HousePlague 04-29-2005 02:23 AM

Alright, so we're all agreed it's custom programming. But what makes it so difficult to replicate? The overall schema is not rocket science. So, the question is, are we talking about a matter of degree or scale, or are we talking about an innovation in basic method?

It's easy to buy a 'one size fits most' application that will do an decent job, but if you want an edge in performance you need to work a solution that fits your specific needs including full scalability, hardware & software optimizations. Custom scripting seems a direct way to gain some advantage over competition locked down by pre packaged limitations...

Fast cgi with mysql backend, believe it or not.

Requests Speed: 42.53/sec, Est: 3.6M/day, Total: 7.8M
Visitors Speed: 33.86/sec, Est: 2.8M/day, Total: 6.1M
MySQL Queries Speed: 0.22/sec, Est: 18.4K/day, Total: 47.5K
MySQL Updates Speed: 18.05/sec, Est: 1.2M/day, Total: 2.7M

I have seen it hit 76 visits per sec and still no slow mysql and load avg never goes above .30

My coder is available for work http://adevel.com/

Choker 04-29-2005 07:31 AM

BTW that's on a dual 2.00 xeon with 1 gig ram. Low end server for sure. The real secret is keeping the databases in ram and using fastcgi of course.

This is the perfect sig placement spot.

pussyluver 04-29-2005 07:45 AM

Hint for new users who buy gallery traffic. Set the force high...

Well it's really no secret. I know squat about coding, but I have the vision and know exactly what I need to make a program I think up work, from there it is just a matter of discussing with the coder and finding a way to make it work. And NEVER be afraid to try new or old methods. If I had told people I was making a mysql script that can handle 10 million uniques a day on a single server they would have said I was nuts.
