Have you ever been a bartender?

How much money did you make in an average night? Or, perhaps a better question would be how much would an attractive GUY make in an average night in a non-gay bar. Hot chicks are a different story I assume.

I bartended but for an upper-class restaurant. Spent most of the night making drinks for the servers rather than with bar customers - it was rare that the bar was anywhere near half full.

Rent Cocktail and you'll be fine LOL

Do you WANT to make minimum wage?
why would you ever consider tending bar.

When I left bartending, I was making $45 a week, and had my life threatened by a drunk customer with a gun in my face.

Go for it. Tom Cruise makes it look fun as fuck.

The only fucking bar I'll ever tend again is the one downstairs by the pool right here at Amp Mansion.

What the hell kind of horrible bartender makes $45 a week? That's less than minimum wage, and you weren't even getting tips?

A bartender in Phoenix, AZ... Glendale to be precise. At The Hayloft. Fuckin' country bar where they make you wear pink polo shirts and double as security. And you give half your pay to the waitresses.

Welcome to the real world.

Off and on for about 10 years from roughly 1986-96

Anywhere from $75 to $250 night depending on the place. You won't get rich tending bar but if you end up in the right place you'll fuck 4 different women each and every week. It's a job for players, not businessmen.

Luck of the draw for guys I'm afraid. If you're good looking and get the odd woman with money in there and you catch her interest you might score the odd good night in tips. Most guys will at least "round up" and leave you the spare change every round which can add up if the bar is busy. But overall I found that the ladies are getting drinks bought for them, not tipping.

Many years ago I bartended small private functions full of suits and came away with fifty to a hundred bucks for the night in tips, and I've worked large bars full of average joe party hounds and made a whopping fifteen bucks over and above wages. It all depends on the bar, how you look and how good you are. There is no magic answer.

ItBurnsWhenIpee 04-28-2005 07:21 PM

I live in a beach city in L.A....that is not the real world for me.

Amputate Your Head 04-28-2005 07:22 PM

Or you can go to the huge nightclub.... split scene, one side rock, one side country.... complete with mechanical bull. You hustle booze to 14 stations for 12 hours in fucking cowboy boots and mop up puke when you're not beating the shit out of some drunk and throwing his ass out the door. If it gets slow, you wash pots in the kitchen and bag garbage.

Minimum wage.

Spunky 04-28-2005 07:23 PM

My buddy makes 200- 300 in tips per night

Spunky 04-28-2005 07:32 PM

Actually there is about 5 of them.and they all pool together and split the tips ..quite a popular bar

I was bartending about 3 years ago Fri-Sat-Sun at a country club for weddings ... i did it as a favor for a Friend and ended up doing it for 2 years .... it was the two of us and we would make $10 and hour plus about $150 to $350 per night ... we'd be on the clock from about 3 hours before the wedding and 2 hours after ... most of that time just drinking and hanging out with the staff ... If you can get a gig at a high end country club with cool management do it ... no register to worry about and lots of fun ... plus you make a few extra K's each month ..... i didn't even need the money at the time i just liked it .. it was fun .. :thumbsup

Where the money is in the service industry is to catch a waiter gig at a reasonably upscale restaurant. Take 6 or 8 tables, have two dinner seatings per table and make $10 to $30+ per seating in tips. Added up you're pulling in $150 to $300+ per shift. Very few bad drunks, and there's usually a bus boy to mop up any puke.

Platinumpimp 04-28-2005 08:01 PM

You can do pretty nice with bartending, I know from a couple of friends.

tony286 04-28-2005 08:23 PM

bartended in the 80's made about 200 hundred a night it was a dance club.

XSV 04-28-2005 09:19 PM

I bartended my last few years of college for a major SoCal restaurant/nightclub chain. On the worst of the bar shifts it was still an easy $100 in tips and these were 4 to 5 hour shifts. Those of us that had the prime shifts averaged $200+ per night. This was in 89-91, great money at night and lounge around on the beach during the day.

It was Cocktail that convinced me I needed a bartending job when I turned 21.

I miss giving girls their first tequila body shot... of course that child's play compared to what happens nowadays around here... gang facial anyone?

Downtime 04-28-2005 09:28 PM

it's the same amount as you'd get for waiting tables at a decent restaurant. tips could go as low as 40 or 50 bucks on a tuesday to 400 on a friday or saturday

reynold 04-29-2005 02:21 AM

i've never been a bartender but i guess your wage would depends on the bar, whether it is popular or not..
