Where do you get your domains appraised

Any experiences with domain appraisals at sites like Sedo et al?
Did it match the circa price you ended up selling the domain for?

Thanks.

Dirty F 04-28-2005 12:57 PM

mkx 04-28-2005 12:59 PM

sexyclicks 04-28-2005 01:00 PM

I didn't have any specific domains in mind, just looking for general experiences.
Here's a few I submitted to Sedo to get a feel for their appraisal system:
statistically.com
findanywhere.com
theblog.net

What range would you put them in?

Thanks.

Without doing research,
statistically.com $XX
findanywhere.com $100-$1000 depending on buyer
theblog.net - $XX

I've received offers significantly higher than the prices you suggest, but I do appreciate the input.

Follow the money: Appraisals are there to flatter you, not to get your domain sold.

Inviolable Domain Truth No. 1: A domain is worth what some sucker will pay you.

Paid appraisals are the snake oil of the domain business.

Wait a sec--that's Verisign.

Anyway.

Good point, thanks for chiming in, I always enjoy your posts.
Now, take theblog.net off my hands, I bought it because of you

I appraised sextoyreviews.com years ago and they said it was worth btw 8-10k. Then a few months later is expired without me having any knowledge

They based the appraisal on a bunch of things, brandabilty, type-ins, if it was easily remembered, how easy it would be to sell goods with, the market..... and so on....

mkx 04-28-2005 02:18 PM

the only valuable one i see is findanywhere.com you can possibly get a more than $1000 if you find the right buyer. However, since findeverywhere.com and findeveryone.com were recently left unregistered up until now, I would take $1000 and run. Theblog.com has amazing value but the .net for a domain like that is not worth much imo.

Very interesting, I would have grabbed those if I knew. Thanks for sharing.

Paid appraisals are bullshit. Go find some of the domain boards and you may get a reasonable idea.
