The Patriot Act

I am watching a replay of yesterdays Senate hearings on the Patriot Act. The head of the CIA...the Attorney General...and the head of the FBI are being questioned.

The Patriot Act was passed by Congress with built in sunset clauses. The sun will set on these clauses this year if the Congress does not re-approve them.

If you are American and you have a problem with any part of the Patriot Act now is the time to contact your Senator/Congressman and let them know about any concerns you may have.

You can tune into C-Span II and following the replay if you care too?

Barefootsies 04-28-2005 06:19 AM

Amen brotha.

Otherwise send them tapes of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me Yet'.

If one is an American...now is the time to let your Senators/Congressman know of any concerns you may have with the Patriot Act. Many Americans "bitch" but not so many actually lodge formal complaints with their Senators/Congressman.

infecto 04-28-2005 07:24 AM

Patriot Act is such a violation of the constitution.

Not until the Federal Supreme Court rules against it either in totality or in part...as the Supreme Court Justices are the arbitrators of what laws...Municipal...County...State...or Federal...are constitutional...or not.

StuartD 04-28-2005 07:41 AM

Do you actually do anything in the adult business besides post about government or war stuff?

FunForOne 04-28-2005 07:41 AM

I think you will find that a lot less people actually understand the patriot act than scream out against it.

I think you will find a shortage of "victims" over the course of its life than some would have you believe.

The answer is...as follows. What I do or do not do...is not any of your fucking business...now is it?

Way to not answer the question. No wonder you like Bush so much. You both answer questions in the same fashion. :1orglaugh

I think you are correct on both points. The Patriot Act changed the way that the different agencies can share information (this is the most important part of the Act). What the majority of the nay sayers complain about are parts of the Patriot Act that they claim violates their freedom. What most of them do not know is that...these parts were actually in law and used prior to the enactment of the Patriot Act...but within the Patriot Act they have been clarified and strengthened.

Wrong. They pay attention to their constituents. The problem is...their constituants do not pay attention to what is being done in their name. In other words...people like to "bitch" but do not take the time to pay attention to what is being done in their name and letting their Senators/Congressman know their opinions/concerns.

Government by the people only works when the people pay attention and become active participants.

theking 04-28-2005 09:17 AM

Anyone contacted their Senator/Congressman yet?

I do not approve of his domestic economic policy and I view him as being weak on environmental protections...for starters...but these two things are my primary concerns.

Wrong...the Patriot Act does not dictate that I have to inform people...that do not have a need to know/are not in a position of authority...of what I do or do not do.

Of course it is the business of those in authority and has been for the 200 plus years of the governments existence. Ever heard of breaking laws...Municipal...County...State...Federal laws ie.

Go move to China if you think that. What laws are you breaking or am I breaking right now? It is NONE fo the governments business if I am here posting right now NONE. We live in a FREE society. It's people like you that accept the dick of the government up your butthole that is the reason why everything is turning into shit.

I will continue to live in my beloved country...thank you very much. FYI...the government...Municipal...County...State...and Federal have been up every Americans "butthole" in the 200 plus years of the nations existence. Every law curtails yours or someone elses freedom...so no this society has never been a "FREE" society. BTW...there are over 10,000,000 laws on the books nationally. The Patriot Act only affects those that are suspected of violating law.

Basically there are not any new laws in the Patriot Act...it consists of what were current laws prior to 9/11...but these laws have been brought together...clarified and strengthend.

I love this crap. If these laws already existed then there was no need for the Patriot Act. Duh! I'm sure it's already illegal to runa red light in your town. now what would you think of your local ogvernment if they passed a new law making it illegal to run a red light? You'd think "Hey morons that law is already on the books" and then what would you think if they came back and said "Yeah, but it's clarified and strengthened and it's called something else so it a totaly new thing"

nico-t 04-29-2005 04:24 AM

analyzed the whole situation in the US, and i cant conclude otherwise then that micheal moore was right: The way your government leads the country is totally based on fear... its sad. Fuck that patriot act and fuck bush's government. They even managed to make my income descrease, they fucked the world up big time.

The FBI had the authority to investigate what a "suspect" was perusing at a Library prior to 9/11 and indeed excerised that authority on multiple occasions...as the Director stated in his testimony before the Senate hearing. He further stated...when asked by a Senator...how many times had the FBI asked for the library records of any "suspects" since the enactment of the Patriot Act...that they had never asked for library records using the Patriot Act as an authority to do so...but that in fact on at least two different occasions...their agency had been contacted by Libraries suggesting that they may want to look into the activities of certain individuals.

The Patriot Act brought together existing laws...clarified them for the agencies involved...so that any ambiguity in the laws that existed among the agencies/agents prior to 9/11...would be removed...thus strengthening the laws.

Where did I state that "these laws only apply to the guilty"? These laws apply to individuals that have displayed suspicious behavior "suspects" who may or may not in fact be "guilty" of any crime or involved in any "terrorist" activity. Only in a court of law can "guilt" be determined and the enforcing agencies of law/the Patriot Act are not the Courts.

I guess I'm under the opinion that if you are checking out those three books in the library, you need to be asked a few questions about your intentions.
