Who knows about mobile technology

For example, how would one go about developing a system to send out sms messages to a database of people? And what would it cost to develop it, adn what would be needed in the way of hardware?

XPays 04-28-2005 01:58 AM

you can email cell#@provider.com for starters

Well, this isn't really for spam, more for people who would subscribe to a service. In other words, a user would sign up and pay for the service, and as long as they were active they would get the sms messages.

Interesting and lateral thinking idea. Here's a humble offering just from the experiences and information I have obtained over the years.

All you need is an SMS compatible phone in your country/location. This is not difficult.

The trick would be to source out the various telecommunications companies around the World that offer SMS service from their respective websites. I know of several companies just off the top of my head that provide SMS communication ability over the Internet.

Obtaining a database of reliable SMS customers is probably the toughest hurdle as well as possible legal ramifications regarding privacy, etc.

Interesting, so you think I should contact some cellular carries about this?

As far as the privacy thing, it would be a subscription type deal, so the people getting the sms messages would be wanting to get them.

I would take a look at the whole spectrum of opportunities. Meaning from a global stand point. Sure there are 100 million cell phone users in the US, but I would imagine US communications companies wouldn't give away a database so easily or cheaply. Not to mention the legal issues that could arise in this country that has one lawyer for every 10 people.

That is why I would do a global fact finding query as other countries and their respective telecommications carriers are quite laid regarding privacy....Money is obviously the over-riding factor in this equation. For example, in Thailand you could get a list of at least 500,000 fairly targetted prospects from a company called Samart Communications.

I was in Thailand 1 1/2 years ago and became aquainted with a guy that wanted to send nude photos through the cell phone on a subscription basis. However, he didn't have enough "seed" money so therefore Samart wanted a huge portion of the proceeds....seeing that this was a formidable business concept. Another commucations company got wind of the idea and did it themselves on a differnent scale and concept. It evidently has worked.

I know this type of service is quite popular in Korea and Japan as their cell phone technology infrastructure is much more advanced in terms of speed and usablity. Hong Kong and China would be a great place to get things going but probably a tough nut to crack.

Hope this helps and excellent idea. Go to these companies with a cohesive outline of what you wish to accomplish along with all contingency plans. An online animated and compelling presentation would be ideal. The sky is certainly the limit. I hope this frames things a bit better for you...Good Luck!

Actually what I have in mind doesn't require anything outside the country. In fact, no other country really has a use for the idea I have in mind, except maybe one or two other countries. I will try to get in touch with some wireless carries and see if they have any suggestions. Thanks again for the tips. :thumbsup

This is something that would need to be custom made from the bottom up, and doesn't involve adult in anyway.

ICQ coming your way now.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you guys only basicly offer delivery of content + billing through SMS? I don't think this is what he is looking for, as I am myself.
