Never based jumped, but skydived many times... After two tangent jumps I was able to jump on my own...

Did 27 jumps, but then it's kinda like riding a roller coaster, you keep doing it over and over and it gets old...because you know what to expect... However, one of these days I would like to do some base jumps...:pimp

DeanCapture 04-27-2005 04:51 PM

That would scare the hell out of me - I think I'll stay on the ground for now :1orglaugh

could you imagine the look on peoples faces after falling from a highrise and landing on a sidewalk... and then just casually walking away like nothing happened...

i'd imagine the expression on their face would be something like that cat picture... anyone have a link? to the "WTF?" cat pic :1orglaugh

I've been on 9 jumps..its a rush like nothing else.

Probably would never try base jumping though...hesitate for half a second and... see ya

I have just under 300 skydives. I have jumped from a hot air balloon, 727 jet (3 times), fell out of the seat of an inverted bi-plane (done deliberately),, and many other jump craft. I also did a jump from 21,000 feet. Great fun.

Never any base jumps, but would love to jump from Angel Falls.

I also have done a few dozen bungee jumps... which scared the crap out of me each time. It is something I would never do again.

300 jumps damn...

how much does it cost for a ride up... once you are able to jump by yourself

Basic jumps would run me between $17-$20 each. That will get you to 14,000 feet (more or less). It's been a couple of years, so the pricing might be off a bit.

Becoming a licensed skydiver will run you a couple grand and getting your own equipment will cost around 5 grand.

very worth the money if you ask me.

Did any1 else see that skit on SNL about this w/ black and white people?

reynold 04-27-2005 06:14 PM

I've skydived 3 times and would love to keep doing it. The problem is that I did it at different jump zones and I still can't jump alone because you have to track down the records and get it approved to get the license. All three jumps were tandem.

I'd love to base jump, bungee dive...anything like that, but I've never had the chance.

Your best option in Canada is as follows:

2 "First Jumps" .. 6 hours or so of classroom work followed by two jumps from 1500 or so feet. You don't really jump, you hang off the wing of a plane and drop, the instructor tosses the pilot chute after you.

A series of PFF jumps. This stands for Progressive Free Fall. Americans often call this AFF or acelerated free fall. Basically, you will jump from 10,000 feet with two instructors holding on to you. They're not attached, they just hold on to you and make sure you get in to the right position, etc. For the first few jumps they will deploy your shoot for you. As you progress, and perform certain skills, you will only require one instructor and it will get slightly cheaper. After you are checked out you will be able to jump yourself. This will take somewhere around 8-10 jumps to complete.

I have to re-certify my first jumps this year before I start PFF jumps. You can probably come out with us if you want.

Skydiving was the biggest rush I have ever had. I want to base jump off of Angel Falls (tallest waterfall in the world) in Venezuela but can't find anyone to go do it with me. :-( That's not a trip that would be fun to do alone.

I've bungie jumped, while I knew the guys that owned the company, that scared the shit out of me. I have also jumped a few tandem jumps, there is nothing I can compare that rush to.

If I had the time, I would seriously learn to skydive only to learn how to BASE jump and practice my tradecraft in these security conscious post 9/11 days.

Rochard is going to slug me first time I meet him for planting this idea on the board, but while the 727 D.B. Cooper jumps are really cool, I think nothing compares to Tandem HALO jumping. Something about a five mile freefall should give any adrenline junkie a real non-viagra induced boner! :thumbsup
