Picture in your mind an interogation room , and try to figure out how this nut got the cops gun... its fairly hard , did he jump across the table and open the latched belt , take out the gun and fire it ?? small guy , big cop ? hmm or does this sound more plausable..

Dont think it happens ? it does ... it happened to me.. I was carrying an unlicensed handgun in my belt and got pulled over and a cop searched me found the weapon, placed it to my head several times and pistol whipped the back of my head.

if i was a nutcase i might have tried to go for the weapon.. thinking i was about to get capped

I agree with 95% of thsi but would be willing to bet it was something even more dumb than putting the gun to his temple to fuck with him. I could see the cop putting it on the table and leaving it there.
