It is great right now. A bit on the HOT side, but nice. Also a little expensive.

i was in Puerto Vallarta a few years ago for a week, nice little town, forget what month it was, have very very pretty sunsets every afternoon
I was there for 2 weeks in december. Absolutely fantastic! Stay at the Riu Jalisco!
Been there 3 times, not sure why I dislike it more with each visit. Nice beach though, too many time share sharks trying to nail you, i HATE that.
I own a 2 bedroom condo down there :)

I'm from Mexico and I've been to Puerto Vallarta many times (my family owns a beach house in Guayabitos, 40 minutes from there).
Is it one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico? nope. The beach is huge, has many rocks, and the sand is very ordinary. Cancun is better by FAR. The sand is white and the sea has a gorgeous shade of blue. It's more expensive, but it's worth it. There are mayan ruins all across the Yucatan Peninsula... something you won't find in Puerto Vallarta. I don't know when you plan to visit, but the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta is on Spring Break, it gets wild, with tons of americans and europeans who do crazy things, because they're aware noone knows them here. Mexican girls also party, but unless you hang out with hookers, I doubt you'll be lucky to score a one-night-stand. :1orglaugh |
I took a 1 week cruise to Mexico, one of those Carnival Fun Cruises and PV was one of the stops. It's definitely a nice place. a lot cleaner than the other stops. Big resorts and nice beaches

BTW, here are a few pics from Puerto Vallarta I took on February. The place looks a lot different at night and when everyone is on vacation... specially on Spring Break.

I don't know how long you plan to stay in Puerto Vallarta, but if you'll stay for more than a week, then rent car or take a bus and spend the weekend in Guadalajara, Mexico.
It's my favorite mexican city, despite being the second largest city in the country. It's rich in history and has traditional mexican architecture. Guadalajara is 2 hours from Puerto Vallarta, and on the way there, you can stop at Tequila. From all drinks produced in Mexico, the most famous is produced in the Tequila Region. In the same way that, under international agreement, only cognac produced in the French region of Cognac can bear the name of cognac, only the tequila produced in Jalisco, and some small regions of Mexico can bear the name "tequila". I also took these photos in February: http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/2005...cc3f0_full.jpg Tequila billboards along the road http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/2005...9fc00_full.jpg Tequila is a beverage obtained from the distillation of blue agave. http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/2005...adc40_full.jpg Zapopan Basilica, Guadalaja http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/2005...86fd0_full.jpg http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/2005...85440_full.jpg http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/2005...04ef0_full.jpg http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/2005...97d70_full.jpg http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/2005...06670_full.jpg http://photos.yafro.com/pics3/i/2005...f5110_full.jpg |
Its ok... but it can't touch Cancun's beach or Acapulco's nightlife.
Or if you decide to Stay close to Puerto Vallarta... you can rent a jeep, and visit the beaches in the State of Nayarit (only 15 - 20 minutes from there). Those beaches are truly beautiful, and they don't receive much turism. Many americans and canadians rent beach houses and spend the winter there.
