How can I get a US phone number?
Without setting up a complicated VoIP setup.
The easier the better... Thanks, Steen. |
Try Vonage.com

VoIP isn't complicated to setup...
They ship you a gateway (about the same size as a router), you plug it into your modem, plug a phone into the gateway and just like that, you've got yourself a US phone number. Check out vonage.ca rather than vonage.com |
woohoo woo hoo hoo ... woohoo woo hoo hoo

All I need is a phone number. I know our toll free number is cheap as borche (sp?) and just terminates (redirects) to a phone number of my choice. Is there anything like this for normal "local" numbers? |
Vonage aint complicated to set up. You just plug two thingys in.

What's your aversion to VoIP? |

Want to keep the current number here... Want to keep the current phone service here... Don't need another phone? :) |

I've got a wireless network setup. Doesn't matter for VoIP. You can also keep your current number and your current service. VoIP doesn't make use of the phone line or phone jacks in your house (unless you want it to). |

We got US address and US credit card etc... No problem hooking up vonage.com (it's cheaper than .ca after conversion). Regardless, it's not really what I want or need. Besides, I can't afford it. |

Would prefer not to get VoIP, but I suppose if I can't find anything else... All I really need is a number (US, obviously) that someone can contact me at. Voicemail should be fine, or redirect, or anything else. |

You've spent more fucking time answering in this thread then it would take to hook up Vonage
|
Even with someone in the states that is willing to set up a phone number for you, and then redirect them to you, you or he will be paying longdistance charges. The only way to do what you want, is VOIP, and Vonage is the best to use.

I used genie.us before, didnt get much use out of it, switched to vonage. Genie are big assholes though

www.angel.com - get the basic business service. 800 number plus voicemail and it e-mails the messages to you. If I remember right you can redirect the number you choose to another phone number.

800's or local , redirect to where you want in the world. Very reliable. |
Get a visa (not the creditcard), move to the states, rent an apartment and order a phone. QED
